Easy fix

I have read a million things on here. I worked for verizon for a long time. It was a good company, and still is. What is happening is a sign of the times. The problems in retail are not that they cant do it. Its the fact that they overthink things. There are ineffective mgrs that dont have a clue on how to properly run a location. It starts with time mgnt, ppl skills, effectively running there floor. As a former mgr, i thrived on greeting. It allowed me to know what was going on at all times and know what customers were in for and what. Nowadays, mgrs cannot properly manage due to inventory, merchandising , shipping etc etc. Its because they have no clue where to start or who or what to put in place to effectively complete these items in a timely fashion. Get it done, get it out of the way. Get on the floor and know whats going on with your ppl and customers. Drive your sales. Dont stand there and think hums are the answer. Voice lines are. I could walk in a store tomorrow, eye ball it up and dwn and in a few hours can tell that mgr what i saw and what to implement to save time and show them how to run an efficient store regardless if you have 5,10,15,20 ppl in que. Until they put ppl in the right positions as mgrs that can handle the traffic and know whats going on at all times on there floors. This will continue. After being out of the business for awhile, im confident i can walk into any location tomorrow and quick fix it in less than 5 days and have it running efficiently and effectively. I would do it for free. Effective time management 101 is where this needs to start. Theyre overthinking operations, and theres no need to. The answer is easy how to run all these items efficiently and effectively. And focus on the item that are important. Your customers and your employees. Then you can focus about getting the growth back. Yes, a lot of mgrs and SM's are glorified greeters. And a lot of them cannot do that properly because a lot of ppl brains, minds cannot process and function that quickly on there surroundings and whats going on around them. That's why sales are lost, and growth is subsiding. People in positions they shouldnt be in, and not knowing how to complete items that dont take long to complete. Fix this. And you can start fixing your locations and getting your growth back.

I agree with the comments the comments below. The OP obviously has no clue about the current retail environment. Most stores don't have queue problems bc there are no customers to fill them. Next, floor mgt is not the problem and not the fix. Here are the problems in retail:. 1. Competitors are winning the race and winning in a big way. This is in part to competitors leading the way with change and Big V waiting to long to respond. Contracts do you no good when everyone else will pay to get customers out of them. Leadership's answer is slam everyone with hums. Hums won't save you in the growth race. Sales reps are stressed to the max dealing with leaderships demands on pushing this junk product. 2. Specifically to retail, the company is terrified of the Union. Whether you are pro Union or not is irrelevant bc the company fears union presence. Why do you think we have so many meetings addressing the Union and trying to convince front line that its bad. They say the Union has no power, well if that's the case then why is the company fighting so hard to keep them out? Think about the culture changes in the stores. They are not doing it for you. They are doing it to increase employee morale and hope it will drive down a desire to bring in the Union. You have to look at every change and think to yourself, what is in it for them?

More personnel cuts will help the bottom line indeed, however middle and upper management is still a problem. As the other telecom companies catch up and they are, we will need to shave more ppl from the payroll... Verizon will become more streamline and effective as the over all numbers go down... The Mesh network/ Gen 5 will put us back on top and garner more market share as PR separates us from the others... Additional products will need to resonate with the consumers further separating us from the pack...

As someone who worked for Verizon and its predecessor, Bell Atlantic, the company is now driven by the holdovers from MCI when they merged. Not recognizing that the basis of a company's reputation is its people and customers' point of view. Yes, the world is changing as is the business. The stock price is not moving because of the mistakes of management. The worst was to depend on FIOS alone to support the business.

Wow bull$hit. Verizon USED to be a good company to work for. Retail is obsolete. Wireless is saturated. You haven't got a clue.

You must be a DM. Think it’s sooo easy yet you have no clue. Preach on how to do it yet wouldn’t know the first thing to do if you were running the store. Today’s business is not the same as a few years ago. “Focus on the items that are important.” Every f***ing thing is important to this company. Everything is a fire drill. Everything is a metric. Every conference call is important. Get over yourself. You sound like an idiot captain obvious.
