Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE needs to let us help instead of laying us off

I'm a long term guy and I had a lot of respect for the company when I was hired. It wasn't until year 4-5 that I started to see how badly this division was run (power).

Managers only care about their metrics and bonus and don't want to hear your good ideas that will save the company thousands.

There are so many knowledge people who know how to make things better and get the job done but management doesn't care.

They say we are a "team" but we are all treated differently. Favoritism runs rampant. It's just so frustrating because I see what a great company we can be and I feel like I can't change a thing. GE created the 2nd pay scale for the newer employee's because they needed a quick fix to look good on paper.

They shot themselves in the foot. Sometimes I feel like this company is run on a day to day basis. If the company actually listened to good ideas, we wouldn't have a 2 tier scale.

Now with the lower pay people are looking the other way for a job. Why come to GE? We offer less pay with less benefits then our competitors. I don't know how GE went down this path of "Manager Superiority" but it's ruined this company with one bad idea after another.

I knew this day was coming and I want to help fix it, but GE needs to let us help instead of laying us off.

Not my post, I took it from @QgoE4b6-1rih - this is exactly how I feel - I think this post begs its own thread...

The hammer hitting the nail: "I don't know how GE went down this path of "Manager Superiority" but it's ruined this company with one bad idea after another."

They really don't know what they are doing. They spend all day treading water waiting for their manager to ask for something then it's, "Yes sir!", and they try to give him 2x what he asked for just so it's known how much they love their boss. They are clueless, know they are clueless and very scared.

This is why I think we are just going to have to wait and see how the business plays itself out over the next few years. GE is not in control of its destiny.

So true. In my field tried for 2 years to alert and propose already tested workable solution, but nobody was listening. I finally quit the company as all the energy I could invest in was completely lost. Individual interests are too strong, top management is completely disconnected from business reality and investors make "The chicken that lays the golden eggs" story a reality. I find it very sad.

GE managers need to for starters stop treating all employees like crap and invest in the people and experience that you have before more quit.

You have answered you question / suggestion really well. What saves a job is Favoritism by your manager and HR manager. The most untrustworthy is HR always on favorite managers side. Thats about it.

Very well put. To bad GE won’t let us know the future any time soon to see if we will have jobs in Power. I am hesitant on my holiday shopping. I told my kids the holidays will be small this year because of this Great American Company I am employed at for the moment. I was hoping for a career here but like many others this is just a fly by night job just like anywhere else. High healthcare premiums and deductibles, lower wages, to raises. Typical American Multi Billion Dollar Business. Good luck Power

not enough words to describe how true this post is, as a taper they don't care about quality they care about the numbers that's all that matters to them were not allowed to have downtime due to machine issues or other issues that may cause quality problems. morale is low employees don't care and most of it comes from the lack of respect and appreciation for those that do work their behinds off well others because they have lady parts get away with same s**t.
