Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The annual layoff on the last payday before Thanksgiving!

Lost a lot of people today.. The office environment couldn't be worse. I was told point blank by management - 'There won't be any on-shore development of any of our applications'. How is THAT for a morale boost.

We are expecting another wave in January. We'll see. I wonder if management is worrying about losing THEIR jobs to cheaper off-shore groups?. How are you suppose to produce in an environment that you dont trust your company and you are in fear of losing your job twice a year!.

What a heartless company. One of the worst corporate cultures I have ever seen.

This was all Network Ops and no Retail. We were told by conference call that this round axed 10% of Network Ops, but I only know of those that took early outs. No one that I know of was fired based on their performane reviews. I'd be concerned if I was in Retail AFTER the holidays, since they're needed thru the holidays, so that post about another round in January makes sense.

"no onshore development for any of our apps" = we have on our apps...

offshore is yet to deliver a good, solid and useful app.

whatever, this is a death sentence.

In some sense management do lose their jobs to offshore. From time to time, the company gets serious about span of control, and if you have too few people under you (and can't steal from another manager) you might be gone. And as VDSI or other offshore groups grow, new managers are hired (or promoted) there.
