You can hate management all you want... You should really hate yourself for not taking the time to invest in yourself. You want to get mad because you gave your time 20+ years or so... Well, why didn't you go to school at night and get a job that you could take anywhere? Why did you depend on a company's tit to get you by? Take this opportunity and remake yourself! The end is not near. Its a new beginning! Don't depend on MA Bell, because Ma Bell don't exist anymore! Depend on yourself! Get a dream and go after it! And for God's sake, quite blaming management, greed, and everything else! Blame the internet and progress! Blame the lack of people buying landlines and cable tv! Blame Cell phones and wireless internet! Pick yourself up and get out there and do something! You don't have to work for AT&T! There are plenty of companies out there that would love to have someone with experience as a Technician at AT&T! Centurylink, Windstream, Electric Companies, Hospitals, Cable Companies, Security Companies, Ect. Or go get a education in computer programing! Do something! But what ever you do, quit blaming management! It ain't going to do you any good and it won't help you with anything!

No career in these times have certain longevity. Only thing certain is death and Taxes. My advice to everyone worried about a layoff, make yourself more marketable. If that’s going back to school to obtain or finish a degree, do it! If it’s going to learn a new trade, do it! Stop waiting for someone to tell you what to do, take action now, as am I!
I have to agree, sadly. The company will even pay for your education if you just take the time to do it. I’ve been working on my BS in IT Security for a year and a half, picking up multiple industry certifications along the way. All paid for by AT&T.
Will it get me a new job within AT&T? I doubt it. Will it get me a new job if I get laid off? I’m not sure, but I’ll probably get that job over you if I have my CCNA Routing and Switching and CCNA Security and you have nothing.

There is a book, also available online, that can be used to check the spelling of words and also provides a description of their meaning, it is called a dictionary.
I suspect the word you were trying to communicate was douche, not doosh.
Use the dictionary, it will help you to understanding the mysteries of the English language.
Poster, you are an idiot. The company does not care about education, they made no attempt to find other positions for the individuals who were fired in the last two rounds. They we're dumped and thank goodness everyone knows now, they failed to cover it up.
Many management enrolled, completed and received certification on 2020 courses as required and were surplused. Know of non-management enrolled in school and surplused as well. A few got jobs but most did not. Point is yes it was good to have completed these technical courses but won't guarantee you/your job will be safe. Unfortunately did not work for us nor good appraisal.

Unfortunately getting IT skills will rarely get you a job, just look at all the recent college graduates whose only job opportunities is in a call center but even those are disappearing. The vast majority of IT work at the company is outsourced to India and eastern Europe.
There is no lack of skills in U.S. citizens and college graduates, the problem is AT&T wants to pay them a wage that that may be a fair standard of living in in a poor country but does not pay the bills in Bothell or Atlanta.
The government and congress is complicit, they repeat the corporate lobbyist lies about a lack of qualified people in this country and pass laws that screw American workers.

Good post. A lot of the technician union workers think they are entitled to continued employment just because they have doing it for 10 years. Sorry seniority doesn’t entitle you to anything. Just a union lie to get your dues.
