Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Start looking for a new job

If you read the financial reports and estimates you will see the writing is on the wall. Behavioral Health IS gone. It is under reorganization. PHC will be gone, due to changes and required RN or LPN licenses to manage members. The industry as a whole is changing and all the big companies are asking for RN or LPN to do HEDIS, SNP, and anything to do with the case management. If you have an MSW, you might be able to qualify for a role of some kind. It is across the board. Interestingly, enough the already depleted nursing industry are becoming more drained by the increased demand for RN case managers. Humana left the ACA, so prevention work by a PHC is not needed any longer under the new strategy. What ever that strategy is, it continues to align with all the manage care companies. Reduction in costs, Utilization Management, Risk Management, Increase in STARS ratings and HEDIS compliance. Not to mention making the shareholders happy and maintaining profits. Don't hold your breath on hope, just start looking for a new job.

I agree but we have not enrolled in this department for over six months. That speaks volumes

Yes there are layoffs planned for January. It is NOT being said by anyone in leadership which department will get hit. It could be HAH but there is a good chance it's not. HAH is just a tiny percentage of all of Humana.

Like many on my team, I’m not angry, understand it’s just business, looking forward to moving on, however could really do without all the false reassurances this past year.

Reality I can handle, lies not so much. That said, I’m staying positive and looking forward to moving on somewhere else if my position (phc) is not part of the plan.

Based on the information provided by Humana, there is going to be another lay off. When is the question. They are changing their strategy. So if your position is part of the plan, the lucky you. Otherwise they are going to eliminate the position and move forward with their plan. It is business. No need to be angry about it. Just prepare yourself and take charge! Dust off your resume, smile and find something that will really make you happy! Maybe it is a way to start off the new year! Stress free, job security and really taking the time to find what give you happiness and fulfillment in your job. The old saying; if you do what you love, it will never seem like work.

“I can assure you there will not be actual leaks this time around“

So you are saying there is a layoff coming by saying “this time around?”

Sorry, but Boopy is full of p--py. She/he is just speculating and had zero inside knowledge. Just a feeble attempt to rule the masses and cause hysteria again. Unless you have actual fact based knowledge keep it to yourself. I can assure you there will not be actual leaks this time around. That problem was solved with the last layoffs.

Early Feb makes sense as that was the time of round 1 last year. Jan is too soon to announce decisions based on q4 and open enrollment, no?

Speculation, Boopy? Or do you have a reliable source? (Not asking you to specify your source, of course).

PHC doesn’t do case management?

I don’t think people are bashing, just expressing that there are needs for other roles than the RN

Agree with poster below. No reason to bash the OP who had this post copied / pasted / reposted out of context.

It’s just speculation yes and might be wrong on a few points, but any layoff site will contain speculation.

For those bashing this poster for their opinion you may have to eat your words later! There’s a lot of uncertainty within this organization so any insight, opinion, input whatever is appreciated. For those that are confident about their role in the company happy for you, but don’t bash another person if they feel otherwise. I don’t feel confident about my role as a PHC as well. I say let the chips fall where they may. Good luck everyone and happy holidays!

OP.....incorrect..it isn’t the msw you need, but the licensure....which is after college, grad school, two years of supervision in yield work and passing massive tests.... each hcmss working in hah has at least 8-10 years of solid education/experience before they can get licensed....that is more education/training than most nurses go through....So, poster, while the RNs can do things, so can PHCs and hcmss.....and, if the RNs are managing the behavioral health folk, they may want to up their game if the PHCs are getting trained on that in a few weeks

I don’t think the OP meant for this to be it’s own thread. I don’t necessarily agree with much of what is posted, but I don’t think it was intended to be a pre-holiday screw you to anyone.

@QRGL5iL And happy Christmas to you too. By the way. We PHC's don't do case management, never have and never will. The PHC role was not put in place for the ACA and not being involved will have ZERO impact on the PHC role. Your post is just a ramble without substance, the least you could do is save it till after the holiday.
