Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

If you are older and have good pay, you're in danger

Get out of this company while you can. This is from a highly ranked, high potential employee with excellent performance that got canned in October 2015 just because I had a high salary. No consideration for performance or dedication to the company. They do not value their employees at all when it comes to making the shareholders happy. Lose money/slash employees. Happens evcery few years at Cummins, so sooner or later it will be you. Slash the ones that make the most first for quicker return. Usually those are the ones that have the most seniority, skills, and experience.

Bumped from an older thread for good advice. Cummins seems to be on a warpath against longstanding employees who earned their good pay. OP is @PLxHM6m-Ynld.

I was laid off from Cummins after 22 years with very good performance reviews. That didn’t matter. They freeze all the open positions so people cannot find other positions and just through the company. Every department has to let a certain percentage go. It doesn’t matter how badly your are needed or how valuable or how much training. They will spend more in losses in support and re-training and errors from the new young inexpensive personnel they will bring in but it doesn’t matter. It make the bottom line look great for just a few months and thats all that matters. Careful, Im with a new equipment corporation now, and we don’t install Cummins. Do that enough times, a few thousand technical savvy individuals.. Where do you think they will go? You are saturating your customer base with people that are disgusted with you.. thats just brilliant!

The problem is that mid management and junior level managers are fighting and kissing a-- to get a directorship position. They think I play the game and they like me and I'm good ole so and so with my farm and believe what they believe they won't throw me under the bus, wrong. They aren't going to risk their job and their large salary over you. And the funny thing is that if you pay attention close enough you can see the little things that are slowly being done to your or around you that is showing you are being setup to be the one gotten rid of. Hell I remember a guy that had over 20 years at the company got laid off, 20 years but they didn't care.

Today your the gal of the ball, tomorrow when many of those people that where protecting you are gone or in other positions you are on your own and those new people won't protect you as much as you think.

I agree. The same thing happened to me. I'll never feel safe at a company again because I am a good performer. There is no incentive to aim higher and get more money and responsibility when that puts you at a higher risk of termination. Junior Level/Mid management employees should consider this if you chose to continue your career at Cummins.
