It's time since their last big layoff was the fall of 2015. It isn't just in Columbus, they slash throughout the company. I would suggest start looking for something now especially if you are a highly paid, long-tenured employee ($85K+, 8+ years). They do not value skilled professional employees, regardless of performance. If you don't live in Columbus, IN, you have a bigger target on your back.

Stamford plant has voted to strike because of the closure. Do not see what that would do.

Their normal layoff cycle is 3 years, so with the last mass layoff of salaried employees being the 4th Quarter of 2015, you should be good until the 4th Quarter of 2018. They never "need" to layoff employees, however if at the end of the year, profits are down, they sacrifice salaried employees to show shareholders that they are making an effort to control costs....happened roughly every 3 years since I hired in there in 89 and in each instance, 500-1500 local salaried employees were out the door and if you take the severance package, then you can never every go back there. The only upside would be if you are Indian or Chinese, because that is where they are shifting all of the technical work to save cost over "expensive" domestic engineers.

Get out of this company while you can. This is from a highly ranked, high potential employee with excellent performance that got canned in October 2015 just because I had a high salary. No consideration for performance or dedication to the company. They do not value their employees at all when it comes to making the shareholders happy. Lose money/slash employees. Happens evcery few years at Cummins, so sooner or later it will be you. Slash the ones that make the most first for quicker return. Usually those are the ones that have the most seniority, skills, and experience.

Stamford plant close over 300 cuts and Kent plant cut over 100 in the U.K. It was not communicated to all company sites but only impacted sites.
