Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is it just me or is the Struggle Real??

I am a former SM now SS in the South Central Market. I have been with the company for 5 plus years and have been really successful in the business. This year i am sad to report i am at negative double digits YTD in commissions compared to last year. Is it just me or is the struggle real? I have never found myself in such a financial struggle as i am today, i am doing nothing different same experienced sales rep as i have always been. As a single mother of 3, this year i have found myself in a real financial struggle trying to make ends meet. Is it just be or is the business going in a different direction? I love working for Verizon BUT im just getting by with these recent checks. Anyone else out there feel the same?

This is how Verizon operates. Tier 3 store, 300 phones per month quota, $3600 commission check. 300th phone sold Dec 31... Reports and commission sheet went in as normal. Commission Check: $700, a $2900 pay cut. VZW changed the store from a tier 3 to a tier 2. Never advised store management of the chage in tier. After going round and round with corporate, Verizon said that they were not obligated to advise of a change in tier. Manager and sales girl both quit.

Verizon will hold you to extremely high quotas, and you can't give a phone way to make a sale. If you give a charger away, thats 29 dollars that comes out of your charge bank. Yet right around the corner from you they will have an agent, or 2 or maybe 3, within a 3 mile radius that sell the same verizon phones and verizon service. But yet are giving phones away.

"Yes I agree!

This is VERIZON WIRELINE!

Wireless people go to the WIRELESS sight.

We wireline have a union, a no layoff clause. We are United."

This board is clearly Verizon Communications Inc, which includes everything Verizon, wireline (inc VES), wireless, Oath, Telematics whatever. Nothing wireline specific at all.

And if you have a no layoff clause, why would you need to go to a LAYOFF site at all, let alone demand your own space there as there should be nothing to say.

Yes, fool...Comcast. I was at VZ for 3.5 years, saw 5 massive layoffs in that short period of time, so I found my way out.

Thought I'd share a little love and direction to my VZ family who were worried about their future and taking care of their families. Apparently, that rubs you the wrong way. Them's the breaks.

We definitely don't want a$$holes like whover you happen to be over there, bringing your toxic, antiquated, negative thinking.

And when we acquire what's left of the "once great" VZ, we'll be sure to work you and your type out of the business.

Murry Chrimmmas beeyotch!

Wireless is non union,. You have never stood up for anything,. Now take what Verizon gives you and go to the WIRELESS side.

We don't want to hear it!

Yup I have coined the phrase Verimazon. It's only a matter of time based on new tools they are giving us and slamming then down our throats! Every since they took away the new line multipliers, I haven't given a sh--!!! Please Verizon for me!!!

Comcast?? Last I checked, this was a Verizon board...wireline at that. Then these wireless parasites use the wireline board and the Comcast rats follow. Next thing you know, Sprint employees will be posting on here! Why can’t these millennials follow the rules?

@ouc Piss off.

If Comcast is in your area, apply there. We're hiring and growing like crazy. In my territory, we've grown and added 10+ new retail centers and are slated to add at least that many in the coming year.

I haven't been there for but a month, but feel like part of the family already. A very welcoming, diverse company with a VERY different culture. Non-toxic, unlike Big Red.

VZ people are extremely attractive Comcast, as we've had the retail experience and customer service training needed. Comcast's Xfinity stores are completely new to retail, given that they've added Xfinity Mobile (a Verizon MVNO...literlly a mirror of VZ's network). Also, Comcast has a vision, is reacting excellently to the competitive landscape, and has lots and LOTS of money.

And with BYOD coming to Xfinity Mobile in another month...get ready for a mass exodus of your customers. $45 a month for Unlimited...no BS line fees, no activation fees, and on the VZ network.

Plus, if your a customer or has someone on your account who uses no data, if you bring your own device, you get unlimited talk and text for free (100 MB of data are free each month).

I have my Mom and her husband on my account. I will pay $45 for my unlimited account, $12 a gig for my Mom's husband (he uses about .5 gigs a month) and zero for my Mom's line. $57 a month for 3 lines of service. You just have to have any level of Comcast internet. Best of luck beating that, VZ.

If you're friendly, knowledgealbe, technically saavy, and a sales driver, you can get hired into a management role straightaway. That said, be prepared to work with a kludgy back-end and unevolved POS systems. The latter, they're completely aware of and are working on rolling out an updated, iPad system. (Remember...Comcast never actually sold anything in their stores until the national launch of Xfinity Mobile in August of this year).

They sorely need VZ's people who posses excellent leadership qualities, selling skills, and interpersonal skills. If that's you, do yourself a favor and apply. Or find one of the many hundreds (if not thousands) of your former co-workers who now work at Comcast on LinkedIn and ask them about their experience so far.

The benefits are bomb (free courtesy services...as in any/all of what you're probably currently paying $150 to $300 a month for at home from Comcast), 6% 401k match, and discounts galore (including Universal theme parks, which we own).

Do your research, but more so, get out of VZ...NOW. They have the opposite of the Midas touch, where everything they roll out turns to $h!t (go90, OneTalk, Hum, etc.).

Best of luck to you, my friend.

How about trying money management or living within your means? Ever hear the story about the ant and the grasshopper?

Verizon makes more money on device insurance than all of fios, so if you want to screw them, just tell everyone you know to drop the insurance and treat their phones better. Verizon comes off as hating their customers, so why do you think they would like their employees? The future of Verizon is 5g for enterprises, which they don't sell in retail stores. My entire management chain up to evp level is resigning end of year, so there's a definite shakeup going on.

"I am doing nothing different same experienced sales rep as I have always been." This is what killed you- doing nothing different. Things changed around you and you didn't even notice. This is scary. Now don't ever do that again. Rule 1 for sales people: They are the canary of any organization . When things change and it is funky they walk. You never mess with their money. Never... The good ones don't stick around and talk about it. They bounce.

Numbers are up year over year, the company is making money, yet we are not. Quotas are so outrageous that they can't be obtained, don't hit your target, don't get paid. Our quota is DOUBLE, what it was last year, nobody is pacing to hit 75% let alone 100! Sell twice as much, make half as much....company gets paid, we suffer.

Do the math:

Less customers + less sales= ?

Let me give you a hint. It's not just you and it's not just Verizon.

Ask yourself what could cause companies everywhere to see falling sales.

Hmmm, maybe the economy isn't as peachy as the news tells you?

Maybe all those empty retail stores are empty for a reason?
