Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

AT&T and Verizon

Both chopping heads aggressively.

So you think you'll just go work for another telco and all will be well?

If these two behemoths are laying off, you should know the entire industry is contracting. Good luck finding a job somewhere else when the industry is contracting.

If you look at LinkdIn, VZ is advertising for all sorts of management positions while at the same time sending experienced employees out the door. They’re courting young workers who will work for less. They do it because they can. If you want loyalty, buy a dog

Nope. The telco industry is not contracting, it's growing like crazy...just not at AT&T or VZ.

The days of selling one product and not having the ability to "own the home" are over.

Neither AT&T nor VZ has products other than service the customer actually wants.

Comcast (and soon Charter/Spectrum) has the X-1 platform. Comcast has Xfinity Mobile (with Verizon's network as its backbone). Charter will soon launch a mobile network on Verizon's network as well.

Comcast has Xfinity Home (home automation and security), Xfinity internet (its core business) and their tv product. They also own 1/3 of all of the channels currently on every tv provider's lineup, Universal Studios, and NBC. And they're just getting started in retail. They know also know how to compete.

Nokia is also laying off (in USA) due to verizon giving the market share to other vendors for wireless.
