If at all you are still considering Cisco, you should push for grade 10. With 8 years of experience, you definitely fit the bill. The base can go up quite a lot. I know people being offered ~150k-160k base/1500 RSUs and are eligible for 15% bonus, all with less than 5 years of experience. But those might be the exceptions.

Add disregard of American holidays to the last post.

Probably a wise move. Not sure of your ethnicity, but there's one thing becoming increasingly obvious with the culture at Cisco. Even though it's a very diverse company, it's always been an "American" company, even though just about every manager/exec between our level and John Chambers was born in South Asia.

That's changed noticeably over the last year or two. Even though a few changes in the exec ranks have brought more non-Indians into the chain of command, it's clear to me that "the culture" is becoming increasingly like that at an Indian company. Well, at least down here close to the bottom.

Increasingly, edicts come in the form of high-minded grand announcements (aimed upwards) - with a pointer to a Smartsheet with your list of deliverables. Reports and presentations are being withdrawn from being shared with IC's. There's an increasing pressure to not give feedback (asked for, but treated with hostility). Frequent reminders of a caste-like "us and them". Mindless devotion to hard metrics, no matter how divergent from business goals. Increasing nepotism (hardly an exclusively Indian trait, but it's getting worse). Stacking of management layers (three in this last 18 months).

Not surprisingly, people are now running away from the BU (at least) - even the Indian born. Only in the last few weeks has "talent management" been mentioned, because the bleeding is getting embarrassing.

Unless you are desperately out of a job, or the offer is too good to be true - about it like the plague.

At this time, Cisco is no longer the best option regardless whether you're in sales, engineering or services.

Don't let the over inflated stock price from all the buy backs fool you into believing that it's a decent place to work for nowadays.

I'm assuming this post is a wind up?? You can't expect a balanced view from the depressives on this site. All you will get is moans from disgruntled employees. Employees that are happy to take the salary then slag off the company that pays them. It's hardly a balanced view.

The clue is in the name of this site. Not exactly objective feedback you'll be getting.

Refuse until they make an offer you can't. Then refuse again.

@QJnjYwK, I had the same experience as a firmware engineer. Joined in 2010. My first project was shipped before I had finished my coding. Didn’t understand why SVP to the 1st line managers were all Indians. They lied and cheated collectively. Hiring all Indians then tryin to sell to Japanese!? The Cisco top management must have been crazy.

If you can get on one of Ruba’s growth initiatives then go for it.

It depends your expectations. Consider your timeline, what you want to get out of Cisco, and your crap tolerance. Cisco engineering shouldn't be considered a long term career option, but it might be worthwhile for a year or two stint if you get a good project in an area that allows you to grow your skills. You would have two go in with your eyes open, knowing that morale is bad, that organizational politics is at an extremely high level, and that there is significant discrimination against Americans in engineering. If you can't stomach this then don't consider Cisco. If you can handle this in the short term, make sure you have a clear backup plan, and a well thought out exit strategy after a year or two.

This site is the last place to look for advice. It's posters are angry people who have either been layed off or who are still at Cisco and are too apathetic to move. You also have the angry folks who want to move but cannot find a job elsewhere and they blame Cisco for that too.

With constant layoffs, Cisco is no longer a company you want to work for. If you are still at your current job, stay or keep looking for other opportunities. Good luck!

Don't bother going to Cisco. I have similar background with interest in low level firmware/driver development. I was very frustrated by the way things go at Cisco and got out in a year. There are lot of awesome embedded companies in the Bay Area paying good money. Don't rush and accept Cisco's offer

The constant layoffs and re-orgs can get very stressful. Cisco is a great company if you are a salesman, horrible if you are an engineer with any skills.

Engineers are not appreciated or treated well at Cisco.

the cisco offer barely matches, even lower considering RSUs from Qualcomm, why is it even worth the move. Besides , cisco has very frequent lay offs, you will be looking for a job pretty soon if you go there, not fun
