Does anyone know of any lawsuits going on related to race and/or disabilities or retaliation for taking family medical leave? If so please respond with the lawyers name here. I'm trying to get this group of people together.
Thanks.

That is always the danger of telling too much about your personal life to people at work, especially your bosses. Again though, it sounds like they chose what they thought was best for the company. If not you, then someone else would have gotten laid off and perhaps that other person had a better long-term prognosis as far as the job is concerned. Or maybe your boss is a wimp who took the easy way out kicking a man when he was down. Either way, you got the short end, and I feel for you.
I should have clarified a bit better. My deteriorating health never impacted my job performance other than the few months I was out on STD and a few personal days I had to take just before going out. After returning to work I still had health issues but you wouldn't know by looking at me and I made sure it didn't impact the quality of my work. In the end, I firmly believe that I was "chosen" simply because my bosses knew the long-term prognosis of what I am dealing with. They voiced their concerns for my well being several times, were very concerned with the amount travel that my job required and I could go on but if I say too much they will know who I am here. To me if it was impacting my performance then I would understand but it wasn't. It was purely based on fears of the future and them knowing that my condition couldn't couldn't be cured and would only get worse. After being RIFed is when my health took the turn for the worse. Moral of the story is even when you work for people for a long time and think you they care about you and your close as family, never share any terminal health diagnosis with any of them. If they ask why were out just tell them it's personal.
I really hope your health is improving but understand that just because you received great reviews in the past doesn't buy you some get out of jail free card in the present. The reality is that if you can't do the job to the degree it is required of you, then that is why STD and LTD exist, and ultimately the company can't be faulted for doing what is best for the company. I know we old timers sometimes feel like we're entitled to lifetime employment on our terms, but that just isn't reality. Not sure if it was ever reality for most companies.
I was part of a previous RIF. I never filed suit but should have. I'm more than positive I have a solid case. I didn't though because I needed not only the severance $ but I needed the medical coverage for some serious chronic medical conditions I developed in my last 2 years there. I was with the company for many years. Several years I received "leading" and a few years "performing" and a spotless record. My boss and their boss became aware of my medical situation and they got very nervous about it. They knew it would only be a matter of time before I was either dead or unable to perform. I went out on STD because I couldn't walk or move at all. When I came back is when everything changed. I knew they were trying to get rid of me and my co-workers could tell as well. I ended up calling my boss out on it and it was deny, deny, deny but then all signs pointed to me being right. There were so many things said and done that just all added up. If I was healthy and RIFed I wouldn't have cared as much but I think my bosses thought they were doing me a favor "so I could take care of myself". Everyone I talked to about it told me I should sue but I couldn't afford it. My medications are close to $10,000 a month without insurance and if I didn't accept the severance I wouldn't have been able to survive the medical expenses and health implications. I felt like I had no other choice. Now a year later, my health is worse, severance $ is long gone, cobra is gone, I can't physically work anymore and I can't afford the high deductible on my Obamacare plan to be able to get the medical care that I need. Verizon seen my grave being dug and rather then helping me out of it, they pushed me right it.
@2tat, you’re a dope.
All I know is that in my area, every single person that was laid off was Caucasian. Not a single diversity hire was let go. Very clearly had nothing to do with performance or merit. Some of the people let go were excellent at their jobs and now we’re scrambling to fill their voids. This was done poorly.
Heroin IS dope, dummy. And thats what the responder was referring to.
Who calls it dope? What is this, Dragnet?
Hey, pass the MaryJane man!

@2rpi, I don’t believe you.
I suspect that the only think you are is some youngblood troll provaceteur who thinks their juvenile comment will get a rise out of people. Nice try, but the rank and file aren’t falling for it.
I'm a Asian American and got laid off while other lazy, dope using workers are spared.
I’ve heard Neil Mullin in Montclair, NJ has kicked VZ’s butt on several occasions.
I don’t have any personal experience in this area, so I would advise doing your due diligence.
I don’t know if any individual suits, most likely because severance is high enough to usually make a suit not worth the trouble. I do know that VZ is being investigated by several government orgs for age and reverse discrimination.
