Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

You've got the wrong expectations I am afraid

Some interesting quotes from this article.

I discovered that “super bosses” like ... tech innovator Larry Ellison ... built legacies by establishing an ongoing flow of talent with an emphasis on employee development.

Stunningly, these bosses all treated their employees the way millennials want to be treated

They didn’t go to great lengths to retain their employees, and they certainly didn’t live in fear that their best workers would one day pack their bags and leave.

Superbosses recognised it was better to have great people for a shorter period than mediocre people long-term.

Rather than attempting to maximise an employee’s length of stay...

Younger workers are good for businesses.

The sooner that companies and bosses master the millennial-friendly workplace, the better off we’ll all be.

Kind of sums up the situation at O doesn't it.

This author is just a shill for the CEOs. I agree that maybe for a time Larry cared about retaining top talent. Lately, however, Oracle management just cares about hiring cheap talent. It's not about the notion that younger people have better ideas or whatever. Generally speaking, younger is cheaper. Larry made an awful decision 8 years ago by deciding to make Oracle a hardware company at precisely the wrong time. Then management saw cloud as a fad and developers as a group to be ignored. Now, with billions wasted on R&D in hardware that is not selling and cloud products that are too new, horribly uncompetitive, and lacking sufficient capital investment, margins are under severe pressure. They are eliminating the field sales force and hiring cheap, young telesales under the arrogant misconception that the products are so good that anyone can sell them. The new hires are bewildered at the mind-bending complexity and vastness of Oracle's product line and the customer-hateful policies of Oracle licensing and auditing policies. They're about to find out that if they don't close big deals, they will be fired. If they do close big deals, Oracle won't pay the commissions they owe them. If they get promoted, they won't get a raise. Just do a Google search or read Glassdoor.
