Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Stop whining and move on.

I just come here to potentially hear about how more f’d up Cisco can be. But the number of racist ignorant boring complaints from either baiters or haters is stupid. I have benefitted from both internet bubbles, and this ain’t my first rodeo. But man this company has been stuck in the 90s wayyy too long and have rested on their laurels. It’s no wonder the company is circling the drain!

I keep hoping for an American old school reaction of rising to the challenge brought by our brethren in other countries, but it’s always met with a woe is me and ‘hey I’m entitled to...’ I see the prejudice many complain about but it’s only met with different prejudice. Try keeping up in your field, rekindle that love for tech you had when your were younger.. were all better than this. Move along or get outta the way,

So can I ask a question? The heads of sales, training and marketing for Cisco are based in the USA. Are they acceptable? Or should they be sent home. Aren't they taking American jobs?

@PvE4Glh-1wzs -. Your experience on the outside matches mine. The problems Cisco faces are not general immigration problems. They are specific to Cisco and directly caused by the quality of people they put in leadership positions not caused by where the leaders come from.

Big problem is that Cisco MBAs can't distinguish between quality immigrant engineers and diploma mill engineers. US has a excellent undergrad programs. Anyone getting through these with decent grades almost always do well wherever they come from. Graduate programs have become high dollar, visa mill credentialing programs for offshore diploma mill factories. Cisco doesn't know the difference. This has completely killed engineering.

When I hire, I don't consider resumes from anyone who has been at Cisco more than three years. They are culturally damaged and under skilled. Quality engineers won't put up with the Cisco crap for longer than this. Those who stay until they are whacked have no drive or ambition.

How dare you OP. I know what I am entitled to. I will raise my kids with reality shows and baseball. But they should be given preference in tech jobs.

I find this stuff so funny after i left. I am a white American in his 40's, and at my new company i work with both American, Indian and Serbian engineers. Believe it or not, they are all competent! Reason why? We don't do H1B, no sponsoring whatsoever. Anyone from another country is kept offshore. Also, we check if the degrees are from a real university and make them take a practical test before we hire them. Not a test like finding if a word is a palindrome, we give random questions that you would deal with on a daily basis.

Suddenly i am surrounded by qualified engineers all over the world!!!! Why? No Indian managers and no one looking for an H1B.

I left Cisco on my own, I saw what it has turned into the past 8 years. Horrible work environment and unqualified engineers with fake degrees from foreign countries are ruining what was once a forward thinking company. I just come here to laugh at everyone now, the salt in this board is beyond compare. If you stay there have fun, but realize the grass is greener on the other side. Not to mention, you can spit and find a job in the valley right now if your skills are up to date. If you are one of those who are looking to find a company to have a career at, those times ended 15 years ago. It took a lot of explaining on my end when they asked me why i was at Cisco for 8 years, nowadays they look for 5 years max at companies in your resume. If you have been at Cisco, or any legacy company for more then 10 years, might as well try to figure out if you can qualify for disability, cause you won't get hired.

Bouncing around is the new name of the game, take a layoff as a gift. Never stay anywhere for more then 5 years, and never, ever think a company cares about you. CA is an at work state, use that to your advantage

Totally agree with the original poster. And the sad thing is that the first 3 replies to your post just reinforce what you are saying. Yet I don't suppose they get the irony.

There are some really sad folks at Cisco. Shape up or ship out.

Hey, 'Old skook Ivy League educated American' leave the LSD alone and start living in reality. Do you even work at Cisco or have you ever worked there? Doesn't sound like it to me.
