Thread regarding Chicago Bridge & Iron layoffs

Open your eyes and be prepared

This was posted by @PmzFyM3-1acf in another thread, but I thought it needed to be rad by more people. Perfectly put, in my opinion:

Today feels like the end of Raiders where they open the Ark. We suddenly found ourselves in the midst of a massacre. All we can do is keep our eyes shut and hope it ends and we will still be here. Then it ends without warning, without anyone sounding the "all clear" You open your eyes. You're shaken and on the verge of tears. You look around to see who's fallen but they are gone. And you're expected to keep going.

We already know there will be a next time. How lucky do you feel? How long can you get by on severance of 1 week for each year of service? Then what, when it runs out? If you've been here for decades the package may sustain you until you land on your feet. But you also have no idea how really long it will take you to find your next job. It will be like another 2008 in how it hits your savings. The same economy that is beating the sh-- out of this company and all our competitor is the one you will be thrown into in the next round.

Do yourself a favor. DONT KEEP YOUR EYES SHUT.

And unfortunately those that were here decades, there is a cap on the severance. Not exactly sure what the cap is, I believe I was told 10 or 12 weeks. That is certainly a nice 'Thank you for your service, eh?'
