The key here is "at least 5,000 workers", and the current rumor mill inside the Enterprise group has the actual number at 10k, or 20%.
I've been hearing something similar. Not really sure why they wouldn't simply come out and say it, HPE has shown it's far from shy about layoffs. In any case, things might be bleaker than originally announced.

This is a crock of crap! Stop spreading unsubstantiated rumors. Someone...perhaps YOU, have been spreading this 20% figure for quite sometime. Misery loves company. You were laid off, now you are attempting to spread you're whoa always me / there comin to get'cha stuff. Stop.
Look at what Oracle just did to what was left of Sun's carcass. That is what is going to happen to HPE.

If the w/force knows 20% are going, who the hell is going to do any work to close q4 and the year or build q1 for fiscal 18, go anywhere near the extra mile needed, or believe the mushroom management that all will be ok - and to just stay focused.
Anyone with 1/2 oz of sense will be job hunting for their own future survival. Also 20% will really spook the markets - so HPE will only declare its true position when there is a legal obligation to do so.
Dust off your resumes ladies and gentlemen, there is every chance you are going to need them (well 20%!).
