Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Times long gone

I am very sorry to hear about the layoffs. Times have changed and the executives were not able to steer the company in the right direction. Now, the worker will pay for mistakes made by the executive line up.

I worked for HP back when their were no lay off. Everyone hours were cut and no on lost their job. We received profit sharing check twice per year. Beer bust every quarter, Christmas parties for each division, annual picnics every summer, stock matching. And on your ten year anniversary we received 10 shares of stock. Every five years of service we were given a gift. What a company!

I was proud to work for a company that cared and shared with their employees. Those days are gone for good.

In the post-World-War-II days, Americans were the only ones left standing with their homeland left undamaged. Every other (industrialized) nation in the world was devastated. So for a few years, USA workers could make $50 / hour driving lug nuts on cars in Detroit, while third worlders made $2/day (if that) cranking out toys and clothes for USA (frankly somewhat spoiled) consumers.

This situation could NOT last for the long term, with "justice for all"! Third worlders are humans too, and deserve good pay for good work, too! Mahatma Ghandi talked of "7 deadly sins that lead to violence", and one was "wealth without work". Equal work deserves equal pay. USA workers losing their jobs from time to time (needing to find new jobs) is the price that we pay for relative world peace... Because we are all humans, world-wide, and we all deserve jobs.

Economic freedom and peace! Peace, peace, peace, please! Freedom and justice will give us peace... REAL, long-rem peace! Nothing else will do... Only freedom and justice will do.

I mean, honestly. Are you lamenting or bragging? You're grieving over a pension plan? We have no shot at that. You should have seen the writing on the wall. The news has been writing about the end of pension plans for TWENTY YEARS! Retirement packages ALWAYS get worse. They do that on purpose because they are asking you to leave in peace. I honestly have no pity for you. You lived in an era of practically guaranteed employment and retirement, which is something the rest of us can only dream of. It's not our fault if you spent it all on clothes, homes and cars. You should have put some away. Move on and count your blessings. Times have changed and the next generation is scared for our families. Be grateful.
