Amazing how cold some are...
Wow.
"This is great audio, has anyone had NBC, CBS or ABC play it."
I'm sure no one in the MSM would touch it.
Ever notice how the local TV News "troubleshooter guy" never goes after car dealerships or any large business? You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
This is great audio, has anyone had NBC, CBS or ABC play it.
2 weeks notice is a courtesy to your fellow coworkers, some of which you’ll probably run into again in the future, but as far as the corporate machine goes, if you don't need your final paycheck in hand when you walk out the door and can wait for them to mail it to you, then you don't need to worry about it.
"technically, you don't have to give 2 weeks, you can immediately resign."
I know of people who have done that, at Oracle and other places. I once thought that was unprofessional, but given how corporations treat people these days I no longer think that way.
I played the recording for someone not affiliated with Oracle yesterday. Some of the words this person used to describe it: "inhumane" & "cold."
When told how ORCL accomplished the 9/1 layoff, the person immediately brought up the movie "Up in the Air." I told the person I also saw that movie. But for the 9/1 ORCL layoff, instead of a one-on-one videoconference, ORCL had a single voice recording transmitted to thousands. No faces or two way communication involved.
Taking it to the next logical step, ORCL probably will move to an AI voice recording transmitted to thousands. Why get Eddie's hands dirty making him read the 3 minute script?
You give two weeks notice when leaving a company, but they cut you in 6 hours.
funny how that works huh?
technically, you don't have to give 2 weeks, you can immediately resign.
Does this not show how cold and evil ED I mean ES is. You give two weeks notice when leaving a company, but they cut you in 6 hours. This little man has a special place in hell, next to Edward Kennedy.
@PpXe8Gt-2lmv, thanks for clearing up the mystery of "Operator, close the call...close the call...close the call reference"! I looked up Sheldon Cooper and the "knock knock Penny" scenes on Youtube, and it's a great analogy to ES! Sheldon and Eddie even look kinda similar.
@2qta There were two versions. ES did the US version. Armes (now departed) did the EMEA one - because their labor laws are different so it's more of a heads up that people are going to get whacked. The content was similarly cold.
There was a different version for EMEA, as due to local labor laws people can not be laid off just like that. That version was also not read by ES but by CA
nope, the message was the same... the multiple "operator close the call" was just a joke referring to the Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory, given the close resemblance also in terms of autism ... knock Penny? knock Penny? knock Penny? :-)
So how many versions of the 9/1/17 robo-RIF were there? Everyone patched into a conference call, but probably not everyone heard the exact same message. The posted sound file in this thread is one version (and the one many heard).
But I recall other posts from thelayoff.com over the past few weeks where people seemed to be saying that on another (or other) versions, ES can be heard saying "Operator, end the call" -- but the "end the call" command was said multiple times.
Anyone else have a recording of a different version of the robo-RIF?
Jusus... you know now how the people on the Titanic would have felt if they heard 'This is the captain speaking, we hit an iceberg and we don't have enough life boats for everybody, just jackets. Men and the poor, grab a life jacket and start swimming, other will be watching you freeze to death from the life boats. New York is that way! It's only business. Operator you may now disconnect these losers.'
Reminds me of that 2009 movie "Up In The Air" where Clooney's character tells his ambitious young coworker that RIFing by videoconference is no way to handle people.
This is much worse. Is anyone surprised that Oracle came up with this method though?
ROBO RIF.
Getting RIFd is hard, but this was cold.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Just. Effing. Wow. My family member described the actual call, but hearing it is a whole other thing.
I'd say the only way ORCL could have done this in a colder, more surgical way would have been if ES's voice had been automated Siri/Alexa style, rather than just recorded (as it apparently was).
And LOL about ES saying, basically, "We're sorry if you got your FedEx present before hearing this recording." Ooops. That did not happen to my family member, but they did get the FedEx delivery notification the day before the con-call so knew the axe was imminent.
Do you think this audio will make CNN, MSNBC or FOX? pretty good with the person saying I just got laid off.
I was on that call. A layoff occurred.
OP didn't post this, I did. Anyhow, I posted this for all the employees that could not dial in to the call. One of the worst layoffs I've seen.
right click / save audio
Thank You very much, OP.
Is there a way to download it instead of clicking on the link ?
Again, thanks a lot.
You cannot make this stuff up, my god that is a first for me.... Lay off people over the phone. My god.
This is cold and inhumane. I feel sad to all my ex-colleagues who had to listen to this robotic message "live". Truly disgusting.
If Oracle treats employees like this....what about the customers? They don’t give a sh-- about anyone but the almighty Ellison. Run...run....run.....
Mass layoff via conference call. That's cold, cold, cold!
Cool. Thanks OPq!
Audio sounds like Cisco Jabber tool on our laptops. Thanks OP.
Funny, don't you think. Exposes the ruthless jerks at oracle, but no layoff occured.
How ironic....hosted on AWS!!!
