Severance

Negotiating severance terms: I think it's safe to assume that the terms are standard and non-negotiable for the severance. Given all the legal lingo CB&I puts into docs, I am pretty sure attorneys covered this... But I thought I'd go ahead and ask anyway:

Did anyone try to negotiate some different terms? For health care, or end date, or anything else or different?

a friend in legal told me that the company has opened itself up to being sued because they've never offered severance to other laid off employees. so heads up - if you're on this board because of a previous layoff and didn't get a penny - contact your lawyer asap

Beautiful. How lucky do you feel when the ax falls again in a matter of weeks? Feel badly for your missing colleagues because they are financially far worse off than they thought they would be just a week ago. Cuts were not performance based. Just a body count to make the banks happy. How much does it cost CB&I to pay you? What kind of red flags came up in your wellness check? They don't need to link the risk of disease to you, just to some job or demographic category. Is your manager older than you, gets more money, and maybe would get CB&I to its numeric goal of 100,000,000 quicker? Does he see you as a threat to his job security if you are trained up enough? Does he control information so he's harder to replace? Do you feel any camaraderie in working hard to make CB&I meet is goals? When happens when the goal that one of you has to go, doesn't matter who?

It appears the package is capped at 6 weeks pay no matter how many years of service you have.

You're being let go. Exactly what do you have to offer on your behalf to negotiate? Unless you already have a contract stating separation terms, you're going to take what they offer unless it violates the law where you are.

Package was pretty standard (I've been RIF'd) before. 1 weeks pay per year of service, plus un-used vacation plus 4 weeks medical allocation.

I suggest get with a lawyer there are already class action lawsuits out there against cbi. Don't sign, you have 21 days. Talk with a lawyer. Make them pay.

Well yes but that's not my point. My point is you can either buy a car or get a really nice Starbucks gift card. But you can't have both. If you think you can you are living in a dream world. So wake up! You can have one, just one, $5 cup of coffee if you need it to wake up. And the rest has to go towards the car.

The best thing people can do is make radical changes to their spending habits ASAP. Even the best severance package runs out in time, meaning no matter what you got, your dollars are now limited to an exact number that decreases every day.

The sooner you come to terms with this reality and stop spending foolishly, the better. No, you don't have money for a $5 coffee or new toy for the garage. Every penny wasted is a penny closer to homelessness.

Do it and don't take no. It's really just their opening bid. Like Trump. Don't even stop when oinky pepper sprays you. Worst thing that will happen is that you'll get the same package they offer you. And maybe you'll have chemical burns on your corneas
