AT&T Fresno Layoffs

AT&T Fresno Layoffs: 6 DTV Tecs from the Fresno office , have been surplussed yesterday, Tuesday September 19th. I was also told that 20 prem tecs were surplussed in the Fresno area today. I am one of 143 now 137 Fresno DTV tecs left. I fear for my job and my future.

@2bwc: are you posting that on your COU? There’s a specific reason I know you’d be typing in all caps and why you’d only be doing it on a work device.

"If you see positions that you are interested in, make sure you are test qualified and register for a test if needed."

This is sound advice. If there is a test required then prepare for it and then take it and pass it so you will have it in your file. Also, if a physical exam is required then make sure you will be able to pass it as well.

The physical exam for some jobs (i.e. Communication Technician) require you to be able to lift 60 pounds and I have been told that many people cannot do this and thus they do not get the job. IMO this is pathetic. Keep in mind that working at such jobs rarely require you to lift anything close to 60 pounds, only the physical exam requires you to do this.

FWIW.

I would get familiar with the company transfer system and review any openings in your locality, or other localities convenient to you. If you become surplus, likely you are eligible for priority placement.

If you see positions that you are interested in, make sure you are test qualified and register for a test if needed.

If people just got laid off and they're not gone yet, ask them if you can review their separation package to see what the deal is. There may be subsidized continuation health care for example or paid training.

The key is to be ready to go on day one of a surplus. If you're frequently idle due to lack of work, expect more layoffs.

I've seen it more than once, a layoff facilitates a transfer to a higher paying job. Good luck.
