I'm a prem tech in nevada and was surplused with 7 other people today. Oct 12 2017 is our last day on payroll they gave us two weeks pay as severance. The list for layoffs was 200 plus people nv and ca it continues to grow. Expect many more layoffs.

I've heard some prem techs in the Midwest are about to be surplussed, and rumor has it the hiring freeze that just started with the wire techs where I work (North Carolina) is due to keeping open spots for those prem techs since they are going to be offered the openings we have for wire techs. We have been steady hiring wire techs in North Carolina for the last 3 years up until a couple weeks ago. Overall, the SE region in IEFS seems like the safest place due to the fiber expansion, population growth, booming Southern metro areas, etc. I just got 5 new hire wire techs on my team in one month! Transfer here if you can is my advice.
The expendables so? LOL
Every person with the premise technician title needs to go to the union hall and withdraw from the union. Stop giving these scumbags your money, they have done nothing but use you to throw under the bus to protect the privileges of core, it's no mistake that every member of the bargaining team was in core.
Prem techs were temporary employees when they were hired to fill a gap a few might land in a different job the rest unfortunately good luck did you really think Uverse was a career move?
This is no joke att prem tech in apedix e portion of the contract doesn't protect this title any on in apedix e, att can lay you off just like that . The rest of the contract has MOA 2 where att has to find you another job on California . It's so not far that the prem tech tittle is getting screwed under apedix E they don't get job offered .... and what is our union doing to stop this ??????? WTF we signed a contract and ATT new combining dtv guy and prem tech together so they could lay off some of them
All because AT&T bought direct Tv.... that deal should of never happen
Sad day for soooo many, including my son...skills don't matter, ATT has no jobs for these hard working employees. I retired from SBC back in 2000....we had tough times but nothing as massive as this. Seems like CWA was asleep at the helm.
I am sooo sorry for all of them...young families and mortgages...😢😢😢😢🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I'm a PT in So. Cal, layoffs have not affect us yet. I'm sure it will but from I'm hearing non essential garages will be closing regardless of seniority.
I AM dtv tech and in our contract they lay off by hire date, and must give us 6 weeks notice,
so any one on here saying other wise is lying
All TFS prem techs in District 9 are effected , from what i know . All TFS Prem techs in rural areas will are belong laid off. I don't understand why they say surplus , if they are layoffs
T NEEDS CASH DESPERATELY TO GET TH IR DEBT UNDER CONTROL .... AND YOu ARE THE PIGGY BANK
Some from 9408 but it's several
What CWA locals are the surplus in? I can't find any info on them
Have Prem techs been surplussed elsewhere or just in CA/NV?
Depends, in FL there are workcenters that if impacted all Techs would be gone, regardless of tenure, Reason: no bumps available in 35 miles radius, and forget to keep applying for those non existing job openings
able to apply*
@1acy this wasn’t a firing it was a surplus so the normal process applies. Anyone impacted will be apply to apply for other positions and they should’ve started applying yesterday if they want to remain with the company.
No one was offered any kind of transfer? Just straight fired?
@1ozx absolutely less techs = less managers = less directors etc. It’s a trickle up effect. If you have skills that are translatable to other open positions within the company you’ll be fine. I’ve known many of my peers who have been surplussed and found other positions within the company. It’s not AT&T’s fault that we’re playing in a competitive, cut throat industry.
Wtf would someone say fake news ? Gtfo a lot if us lost our lively hoods today and your acting like its fun to make sh-- up , at&t and cwa fd all of us and did it so with ease , we all bit into the sign this contract b---s--- and now look at us , fn joke and mngt will get theirs soon

CWA, A cesspool OF CORRUPTION
To the manager who posted-do you think with less techs there will be manager layoffs? Does T care about you? Just some questions to think about. In the Midwest many mangers were let go due to there being less tech to manage. The cuts went up to second level managers as well.
Yes TFS techs have picked up work such as bonded pair's in many areas. This is great news because they are the higher paid of the two groups. It's great to see us keeping the higher paid jobs with traditional pension plans and losing the lesser paid ones!!
Your union doesn’t care anymore. They’ve sold out to the company. Some areas have already had TFS techs doing IEFS work. Watch that continue or expand.
FY I’m in management and even some area managers who have prem techs weren’t aware of the details prior to the union becoming aware of it!
It is true layoffs is here be ready guys I'm one of the Fresno dtv tech that got surplus. Oct 12 Is my last day and there's more be ready for more.
6 DTV Tecs from the Fresno office , have been surplussed today, Tuesday September 19th. I was also told that 20 prem tecs were surplussed in the Fresno area today. I am one of 143 now 137 Fresno DTV tecs left. I fear for my job and my future.
Funny, the union does not know antything, probably they will notice when union dues are past due , but sad
It's true. I'm a premtech in California and my whole garage was layed off. The list I saw was ~80 techs. Last day is 10/12. One guy on my crew has 30+ years with the company.
Fake post. I can't find any info on this on any of the CWA D-9 sites. Doesn't seem true.
They called finance rep lay off a surplus yet none of the spots were kept,
If they are eliminating the role it's a layoff
Two weeks pay for severance? that does not sound right.
"Surplused"
Yet another thinly veiled attempt to avoid calling it a layoff. Never seen such a concerted and desperate effort by corporations to cover up layoffs.
Stealth recession is here, and the powers that be are trying SOOO hard to hide it.
