Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

naive posts!

yes collateral damage happens in fortune 100 restructures. nike isn't unique. good employees in wrong place at wrong time due to doomed projects or bad managers. great employees in crossfire don't run to anonymous message boards to whine. they get scooped up quickly by the market and move on.

hr doesn't make decisions they are made by business. hr just doers. internal and external counsel review for months before employee notified. all talk of discrimination/eeoc? sure, pursue all options. but be informed and don't put all your trust in repeat anonymous online posters. nike sometimes makes dumb decisions with $. but they usually informed.

hr happens after business and rumor has started this week with a bunch of long term vps.

bad earnings don't mean more layoffs each quarter. if thats what you think, you aren't listening.

you worked for years with no direction and nothing to do? and you blame nike for getting laid off?

yep cfe process s---s, but news flash. difference in S, HS, and E is 1%. and almost EVERYONE thinks they are HS or E. every year. its not just managers fault. process s---s.

someone told you they had an offer at nike but turned it down after reading this forum? BAHAHAHA. hilarious. even if true, nike dodged a dud.

you won't be hired back within a year because big companies make policies informed by fed and state laws. not a nike thing. normal. may happen to a few but exceptions.

i know 6 people fired. severance wasn't withheld until 9/30. they given notice to evaluate and accept the package. not unique to nike.

all 6 people got generous packages. i kinda wanted one but nike is still nike. regardless what the dozen or so folks on here post over and over again, vast majority us employees love the company. and all 6 of my former colleagues would come back in a heartbeat. work can be frustrating but that is why we get paid to do it.

waste at nike. ya. lots of it. dinners, happy hours, swag, and some employees/leaders that skate by for decades collecting paychecks, designing 5000 different black t-shirts. not unique to nike. i have sorority sisters all over silicone valley at google, apple, facebook, and others. same thing happens everywhere.

"stop construction so you can keep paying employees". dumb analogy. short-sighted. why keep paying people to work on products we no longer intend to sell?

h1 abuse? h1 is public info. exaggerating this topic. go do your own analysis at h1bdata dot info

unionize? dummy. terrible idea.

5 of the 6 i know felt respected when fired. 1 did not but he tried to take files with him and got escorted. c'mon, common sense.

sweatshops? c'mon. nike moved entire industry forward in past decade and has strictest policies. all public info.

nike is cliquish? yep. so are elementary schools, sororities and all fortune companies.

move laid off employees to other jobs posted? they did. bunch of my friends in new roles. but some accountants don't design good shoes and designers don't make good IT people. not always a fit.

5 employee store passes? good god i hope that didn't really happen! none of people i know received passes.

"successful employees at Nike are exceptional at other companies". every company tells employees that.

this is not much fun right now. but being mean on anonymous message board doesn't make it better.

nike is great. not perfect but great. it will get better. chin up people. drink the cool-aid or move on. all companies have cool-aid and want you to drink it. when it starts tasting sour either pour it out and leave or add more sugar!

OP is right. STFU...you and your poor little layoff hearts. Grow up. Move on. Stop posting here and look for a new job.

Nike will be better with the dead weight and older employees gone. WE need younger people with new ideas.

The naivete is from the poster that started this thread. I am still here too. Morale is shot. No one believes their senior leaders anymore. Almost everyone is questioning the direction of the company. My friends and I have all updated our resumes and are quietly shopping them. We speak in hushed tones so that we aren't deemed non-team players, but it is still noticed. Paranoia and protectionism rule the day. The original poster stated that Nike is still Nike. No it isn't. Maybe it will be again.

Question for the person that initiated this thread. Why is your English so bad? Is Nike employee or contractor selection that bad? If so, that must be just the tip of the iceberg... No wonder!

Secondly, I opened this web address. The people shown here to me look like low level gangster drug dealing scum. Is that your customer base? Wow! I am staying the hell away from Nike products. I don't want to be seen as scum.

@Pim1LxZ-1jlr You are a coward. I think you look at life as:

  1. Me

  2. Money

  3. My next career step

  4. Company

  5. Family

  6. Others

I believe in making the company right. That's what we are all paid for. We got to big, way to quick and figure it out as we go. All of these posts are valid. All of them. Even yours, but compassion and passion are what we should be doing daily. It's why we get up. Everyone has their own reason why they get up. But we should never sacrifice a good moral compass to get what only a few can have. We should have spent our resources weeding out the wasteful employees to drive a better experience for all. Compete that's what we do. I would never become become CEO or even a VP. I have always been ok with that. I raise my glass to those who can and strive for it. I want and wanted to serve the great good of my company and my consumers. Shame on all of us for trying to serve our needs.

op here. c'mon. thanks for the perfect examples of entitlement and negativity.

and gross assumptions. never condone unethical behavior. i don't. my intent was to acknowledge nike is not perfect. its not. will never be. should not be compared to same moral compass as your wife's etsy shop or grandpa's sunday school. perfect world, sure. this world, nah. it should be compared to $35B+ companies trying to make broken world better. you can't tell me sports don't make the world a better place. and nike won't bat 1000 trying to do it. but they are doing it.

waste doesn't just mean stealing tvs. if a true post, shame on poster for not calling police. regardless of fear. odds are story is embellished through game of telephone before it got to poster and before posted anonymous on a message board. i'd rather more than 58% $ than a thirst. thats waste to me. not unethical. and contributes to morale.

nike is only my 3rd fortune 500 company in 11 years of work. reading most of the comments appears make me 3x as qualified to speak about other company culture compared to tenured folks just fired who spent recent decades at nike. doesn't make me better than them. just means a first first hand view at 3 biz vs 2nd hand view. this is an anonymous message board. we are all genius. and we all are underpaid, exceptional, doing more work than every executive, and deserve a loyal company. c'mon.

MP is not perfect. he doesn't think nike is perfect. said so himself "we must do better". just listen. morale will get better.

ok, sure, maybe more than 12 people posting. but even if 100 unique that still very small percentage. and you refresh this site often clicking in on every reply. views on layoff aren't bible.

Ms kool aid drinker

Maybe you missed the several posts on here of people who've either 1) left on their own or 2) desperately wish they had been laid off. Due to the hundreds of views of these posts, certain it's more than 12 people. Nobody can argue morale is at an all time low; across all GEOs and functions.

You are right, talented people take their skil!s and get scooped up by the market. Look forward to drinking (spiked and overpriced) kool aid somewhere else soon! And, remember Jim Jones? be careful & Good luck to you!
