Could you imagine being a NIKE small account sales representative today, of which there are thousands around the globe ... you know the ones that are servicing the +29K of "shoddy retail" accounts that NIKE will be moving on from and taking the calls of ..."Hey ... just wondering if I am one of the lucky 40 accounts that you will be doing business with in the future?" ... I'm sure everyone was prepared ... snicker, snicker ...

Nike is not walking away from 29K+ accounts. 40 accounts will never be able to serve the whole world.
It's just means that Nike will invest heavily in transforming those 40.
The rest will just exist. Dying slowly
If you are a sales representative who is over 40 or has more than 20 years with Nike, you will not have to worry about your accounts for much longer. The accounts may survive but you will not. When Nike moves out, others will move in. Keep you contact list up to date. It will come in handy when you pitch your resume to Adidas, UnderArmor, Puma, etc.
FYI Sales reps are no longer needed at Nike. Go sell pills.
And what about the hundreds of merchants "assorting" for the wholesale business?
I think the changes would simplify our bigger issue, distribution of the product.
I know.....and guess what? Other brands will happily swoop in and take that business. I had a lot of conversations in my group about how we were walking away from key shops that were important to our reputation in favor of big box shops. It may not be the consumer that drives the most dollars, but it’s the one that creates the buzz and the cool factor. Nope....let’s double down on d---s Sporting Goods.
How many channel sales reps are in utter disbelief today? That used to be a lifetime gig so long as you hit your numbers, didn't piss off your sales manager, or boink some VP's trophy wife. Today, a lot of folks are pricing laser tattoo removal for that Swoosh inked above their ankle.
