I am wondering if we have grounds for age discrimination class action suit against Ally Financial. From what I can discern, majority of the people who have been let go are over 40, in most of the cases over 50 years old. All of us have decades with the company under our belts. Yet none of the younger and newer employees were let go, at least to my knowledge. Does anybody think we have grounds for a class action suit? I am so angry and disappointed right now that I'd be up for it in a heartbeat.

Reply to age discrimination- yes, there are plenty of folks who would get together on this topic…..let’s meet - suggest a place - I have an attorney we can ask.
I suspect there is age discrimination going on at Ally as well. Lay offs not only included tenured employees but also newly acquired company's elder employees who were promised secure jobs only to be pressured to leave or encouraged to retire. The purchase of other companies included their employees so severance pay outs could be avoided. Imagine in this day and age buying employees as if they are chattel! Ally did not want or need the employees but they took them as part of the acquisition.
To 'Happy Ally Employee': your lack of compassion and poor grammar are an indication of what is wrong in today's world. Shame on you.
This is to Happy Ally Employee post.
You are an IDIOT, (which is probably why they kept you). I am sure that everyone that was let go would forfeit that so called big fat severance package as you call it. So many people there gave Ally/GMAC their entire career and in return they got a 2 minute scripted conversation from their manager without warning that they were losing their job. Being the idiot that you are you either must be a young punk or a member of the Ally cowboy managers club. Either way screw you!!!
Tell them that Ally is paying you until the end of the year and that big fat severance check your getting In January 2018!
Doubt you would get anywhere. Often it's not about the age, it's about how much more salary you're drawing than a fresh out of college kid would cost. I have two and a half decades where I'm at but tomorrow I could probably be replaced by someone costing half as much. Unfortunately your ex employer has zero sense of loyalty. Getting more common these days.
