There are still a small number of people left working on Solaris, but the bug pile is massive and most of the expertise has gone. The strategy is to "de-feature" a lot of stuff. The same thing is happening with ZFSSA which is dependent on it. zcloud was supposed to be released, the launch happened but the appliance part wasn't ready in time and was going to be released as patches, now it's not going to happen at all. Both products are being transitioned into maintenance mode. Code written in the past year may or may not see the light of day. People continue to leave.

Funny I am still seeing internal updates on Solaris 11.4 OS new trunk releases and documentation. If something is not going to be released they sure are still putting a lot of work into it.

There is no SPARC development left at Oracle. The only SPARC people not cut in the last round were those to sustain the M8 series for the life it. Everyone else is gone.

I don't think there is anyone left there . They will probably lay off the janitors

How can HW be hit if it is already completely gone? So the last 30 ME employees will be let go now since M8 has launched?

End of the November. Just not BUR but SCA , SAN and AUS are affected too. It will be no WARN notices since not too many people left.

Bill N is running Solaris sustaining org from Burl... he is trying hard spinning a story that Solaris is alive and Solaris 11.4 will be released at the end of cy2018. Customers are not laughing at this joke anymore
