Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Great company, bad timing!

. Fundamentally a great company

. terrible management.

. Lost market leadership due to bad transformation execution.

. Management is self centric instead of being customer centric

. Share price still not zero just because it pays dividend!

. Still chance to survive buy getting rid off domestic networking culture and dump liabilities

Perhaps: "was once a great company" is a better statement. Terrible management = true. The management question (good or bad?) has already been answered by clients, employees and several analysts - so the point is moot. The consensus seems to be that the executive management team is dominated by internally focused trough feeders, ruling through fear and nepotism.

SLB is a technology company and is still remembered as such by much of the market (outside North America). Time will tell but this positioning memory may well be lost if the company stops coming out with silver bullet technologies. You need good people, not cheap people for this and you definitely don't any more infantile or silly initiatives - ultimately you will all be found out.

Let's read that again: fundamentally a great company; terrible management. Uuummm that makes no sense. SLB lacks in fundamental strategy and execution as a result of both poor management and failure of the Transformation.
