While the US concall was "You've done a great job, but your job ends today.", the EU one was "We're giving you the required notice that your department/site will be impacted by the process we're starting today, stay tuned for individual details in the coming weeks." since EU law has stricter notification requirements than US WARN law.
E.G. : In France the layoff is effective 3 month after you received a formal notification, the company has to justify it to every person, if there is a wrong or false justification or a clumsy one, company can be severly punished in a trial. Immediatly after the France provides you up to 2 years at 57% of your normal salary.
Absolutely. I take the invitation to the EU concall as being made a target for termination too,
much like in the US, with the exception that across Europe, things will be handled differently
in time, process and order depending on individual country laws. It is just not now but it will happen regardless and eventually.
Btw, would someone really think the remaining, say 50, Solaris developers in the EU may possibly form a somewhat sustainable development group for any form of future Solaris OS - I don't think so, very very unlikely. The only plausible case here is we are kind of a walking dead group.
the invitation to the call in EU was nominative. in most EU countries is not possible to layoff immediately, but who received the invitation to the call is on the list.
Still very unclear. The affected people in Europe received a different concall message than their colleagues in the US who were laid of immediately.
