Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

We all knew this was coming

If you've worked at Nike within the last two years, you knew a layoff was coming even before it was announced. At large meetings people asked leadership during QandA, "what are we going to do about Our compeptition gaining ground?" Leaderships response was, "what are you going to do about it". I literally thought I was in the twilight zone. Unfortunately those people in leadership (that got the company into the mess) get to keep their jobs, while hardworking people, and people who have been with the brand and helped build it up are laid off. Next time they put out another heritage video about the brand, everyone feel free to roll your eyes. of course they let people go because of age, they're obsessed with youth. This is proof.

They also have a boy's club and a play the game Culture that is extremely toxic. I've seen men get away with so many unprofessional and bully type behavior. Bro helping bro

To all the people that got laid off..... They don't deserve you. This brand is dying, and they don't care. Leadership will collect their fat checks and run it into the ground.

layoffs are never good, but newsflash: Nike has always been "good ole boys club", people have always been inappropriate in the work place, there has always been cliques and "cool kids", there has always been people promoted that shouldn't have. someone mentioned there hasn't been a tv ad commercial in awhile, really? these are not the reasons this is happening.

To the comments about Nike used to be fun and management ruined it.....I was in management and let me tell you, that was no picnic either. You're responsible not just for your own work load, but everything that your team does too. Your team is whining about how great it used to be and expecting you to somehow fix that. You have a disgruntled staff that's just as eager to stab you in the back. You watch leaders make bad business decisions and chase business from other companies. You watch yes men get promoted and rewarded. And all the while feeling like you're in a Twilight Zone episode where you're the only smart person in a sea of stupid. Good people will steer clear or jump ship.

Most of the people I've seen that comment is "NIKE use to be fun." "Management screwed this up." Etc. Nike was due for some hardship, started in 2011 and blew up in 2015-2016. People got drunk on victory. People assumed things came easy, and that spreads like wild fire.

Since being an ETW for 4 1/2 years, I was constantly informed by my FTE "overlords" that Nike only hires the best, yet we constantly hired the wrong people for the wrong jobs. Promoting failures and yet, we made so much money... we became blind to failure. I took my lumps as a etw, learned from my failures and tried to tell people "don't forget, were a business, not some amusement park".

When I got hired finally, I was surprised of my on boarding experience. It was a "ride" not a company. Right then, I knew we were in trouble at the start of 2016. I worked my a-- off attempting to protect the hard workers avoiding the individuals who had become drunk on victory and at the end of the day... I'm still here and I was able to protect most the individuals that were working on the right things. Stay late, getting the work done right.

The two things I want to add to the folks that got let go, learn from this experience. Like the company you work for, but don't love it. They will never fully love you back and you'll only ever be hurt by this. Second, do your job like tomorrow is your last day, never lose that drive.

It can't be understated about the yesmen. It sounds cliche but most wouldn't know it if it slapped them in the face. You couldn't even see it Until it was Pointed out to you.

It won't be fixed. It's just different now. It's less about relationships and special culture. It's about money. Look at the front of Time Magazine this month. 'When Youth sports went Pro'.

Nike started going downhill when the stopped doing TV spots...now it's just digital...

The last best ad Nike did was when they had that live Moon Shot thing. Live sh--.

Sad to see where the company is heading. Nike used to be a fun place work in. I missed those who have Brains, Heart and Balls but got laid off. Now it's filled with yesmen who know nothing and do nothing.

Yep - it's the old white boy network. F---ing matrix organization my a-- - it's a way to keep the old boy network going. Unless there is a change in top starting with booting Mark, nothing will really change - they are just counting on Addidas messing up.
