Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Great input on decision making

Hi, I had to copy this from another thread...thought it was good info:

Of course there is a strategy involved in the layoffs. They didnt admit to anything most of us didnt already know! They don't go eeny meeny miney moe to select. As a former hiring manager, I know so much more goes into these selections! Productivity isn't the determining factor and neither is family health history as HR never wants a lawsuit. Often times someone with slightly lower numbers has more to offer the company. How willing they are to adapt to changes or how easily they adapt is key. What other areas of expertise do they offer the team? Are they complainers or do they offer viable solutions when they see a problem? If there are future layoffs, you can be assured that those left have been ranked already.

I resemble that remark! I'm an angry a-hole and I haven't been impacted. However my friend is a recruiter and he said that angry a-holes always score the best on the doomsday score charts.

Gotta love Humana. We are all fake and phony during the workday, but give us an anonymous site and we reveal we are all a bunch of angry a-holes.

Wow, people wishing someone be laid off because he/she laid out what most companies look for when they retain employees is down right nasty! I know you are probably angry because you were impacted, but you don't have to take it out on those who offer a little knowledge just because you don't like the knowledge they share! OPs points were on target. My significant other is in recruitment and retention at another company and agreed with what OP said about what is considered when it comes to retaining employees.

No one is blaming anyone so the high horse comment is ridiculous! Sounds like karma got you and took you by surprise! The point was to explain what they look at. You can be a "sweetheart" and still not have everything they are looking for. You don't know everything about your coworkers that only their coaches knows. By the way, I was laid off too! Not taking it personally because I obviously didn't fit all the criteria they were looking for.

We lost some sweethearts, good people, not disrespectful at all, team players who always tried to help.

You need to stop blaming those that got laid off for their situation. Get off your high horse. It's a sinking ship. I hope karma comes around and YOU are next.

There is a difference between being Suzy Sunshine, which any good manager sees through and being willing to accept change. You can be outspoken but respectful. It is those who are obnoxious about their opinions who won't stick around!

I don't know, I can be pretty outspoken and I'm still here, but Susy Sunshine - the queen of inspirational quote emails and "We are Humana! Thrive together!" type chat on my team - is gone.

I feel bad because she drank an awful lot of kool aid for the team and they just showed her the door.
