Advance policy of bringing in a ton of partime 20-24 hrs instead of a few full time people is done because most gm want make sure they work no more then 40-45 hrs a week, it's all about coverage and them not having to cover shifts themselves when someone calls out. I have worked for advance over two years, we are on our third gm and have only experienced my gm covering a shift 2 times themselves.
Advance refuses to offer overtime, when they get there employees to cover shifts they just pull back hours to keep everyone under 40. Another reason we can't keep good hard working people is that they continue to go outside for management positions instead of promoting from within. I have watched them at my store bring in 3 AGM two from drugstores, one from selling shoes all three not a hint of automotive experience. I moved quickly from partime driving to sales then key and finally retail parts pro taking on most AGM ang gm responsibilities. Our gms seem to get to comfortable keeping good hard working people in same position and have no interest in furthering others carriers, doing so would only mean for them having to train and themselves just need to work harder bringing a replacement up to speed. The push the story how wonderful and how much opertunity there is for hard working people to move up but it's all smoke. They continue to just go outside the company when management positions open up hiring people without a hint of automotive experience.
Bumped from @OTwG107-7cth. Agree completely on all points, but especially the outside hiring. It's hurting the people who are qualified and have been with the company for a while, but it also hurts the company, as most of teh people they bring in have never worked in automotive industry. WHy do they think they'd do better then an experienced AAP worker?
