There is no leadership at Advance, those at the top have no idea how to run an auto parts business, and those that do know have left for better opportunities. This is why sales are in the toilet, the stock has dropped severely, and people are either being laid off, or are jumping ship. Advance is a horrible company to work for and there is no loyalty any more.

Why are so many cams leaving? I’ve seen 7 leave in my area in the last 45 days. One only went to training and then quit. Is their leadership that bad?

Advance policy of bringing in a ton of partime 20-24 hrs instead of a few full time people is done because most gm want make sure they work no more then 40-45 hrs a week, it's all about coverage and them not having to cover shifts themselves when someone calls out. I have worked for advance over two years, we are on our third gm and have only experienced my gm covering a shift 2 times themselves.

Advance refuses to offer overtime, when they get there employees to cover shifts they just pull back hours to keep everyone under 40. Another reason we can't keep good hard working people is that they continue to go outside for management positions instead of promoting from within. I have watched them at my store bring in 3 AGM two from drugstores, one from selling shoes all three not a hint of automotive experience. I moved quickly from partime driving to sales then key and finally retail parts pro taking on most AGM ang gm responsibilities. Our gms seem to get to comfortable keeping good hard working people in same position and have no interest in furthering others carriers, doing so would only mean for them having to train and themselves just need to work harder bringing a replacement up to speed. The push the story how wonderful and how much opertunity there is for hard working people to move up but it's all smoke. They continue to just go outside the company when management positions open up hiring people without a hint of automotive experience.

I work in a store group with many locations. Over half of the store teams in this market have quit and it seems the other half is looking. DM is promoting anyone that wants to be a store manager to plug the gaps. One of my PT drivers just got his own store for just asking. The turnover here is staggering.

Walmart's starting pay is like $10/hr or something for just the average flunkie. $15/hr for dept managers. If you get in a store with a good manager, go above and beyond what you're just supposed to do, you'll be an assistant in no time making $55k+ a year. You'll have to really knuckle down and work for it but it beats working for $8/hr at Advance Auto taking cussings from customers because someone else sold them the wrong/bad part, managers/district managers with no backbone and no chance of promotion.

One poster says people leave because of a boss, and that is true to a point, as many can put up with a lousy boss if pay is enough to tolerate the stupidity. Problem is Advance hires bottom of the barrel people to be managers and expect good people to work for low pay while working for a moron. Enough Said ?

I can't afford to work here anymore with the uncertainty of my schedule. Losing 10-12 hours per week kills my check and I don't see any reason to believe it's going to improve. The DM writes the schedule and could care less about the people as long as he meets the numbers for his store group. I'm looking hard.

They are willing to lure the "cream of the crop" employees from the competition by matching or beating their current salaries, but to hell with the current employees who bust their a-- off day in and day out, who find creative solutions to resolve the problems that naturally arise during a normal day at advance..no raise in sight for them.

And if they keep on cutting hours especially your good help you are going to lose some key people to the competition. I've been cut 8-10 hours a week. So you can bet I'm looking.

This is also true when you pay too much for someone above you limiting your promotion track. If the company wants to roll out the red carpet for someone from the outside that's their choice. The company can also decide to pay those outsiders higher wages as well in order to lure them to AAP. The downside? When those outsiders share their high wage with subordinates and complain that they make so much that the company doesn't match their 401(k) contributions.

Pay crap and get crap. Pay too much and you can still get crap, it's just wrapped with a bow on top.

There is one main reason people leave companies, and that's their boss. Enough said.

Unless this company decides to pay good employees fair wages , this trend will continue. Last few years hiring anyone with a pulse to fill positions has been a disaster. If you Pay crap, you get crap.
