Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Laid off or Left Behind… Which is worse?

Though the thought of being laid off is frightening, I'm beginning to think it is the better outcome. This all confirms for me that the Nike of today is not a company I would choose to work for if I were out in the job market. So, If kept, I would be searching for a job anyway. Better to take a healthy package and have the time to look vs. suffer through the toxic environment picking up the pieces with no support, no direction and no time to find a way out.

It is so bad right now being left behind. Recently I have faced countless situations looking for expertise only to find out the the person that could help is laid off.

@Jeff- Nike will not ask for volunteers like other companies do. You know why? All good people will jump ship and take the package. They will be left with all brown nosers and morons......

@Jeff, please include why the WARN notices haven't been updated in your reporting, thanks.

It seems they should have started with volunteers. Morale has been bad for the last few years and so many people have been unhappy.

@gfb they will not publish it unless someone can confirm over the phone all what folks here are saying - that's called fact based journalism - so, we'll have to wait until the find someone who's willing to talk to them. patience...

I know for sure that HR is montoring this board - now they must be concerned as it is about to hit the news cycle. Nobody covered the story yet though.

My team was one of those affected by the June round of layoffs. It honestly seems like the people who were left behind are worse off than those who were laid off. Morale is really poor, and the new organization and strategy isn't very clear (at least among those people I've talked to). Many of the teammates who were laid off, meanwhile, had positive attitudes and outlooks after the initial shock wore off, and a few have already landed new jobs.

I am indeed writing a story as we speak. And I wrote a story when Nike first announced the cuts earlier this summer. I may have a way to determine the age and longevity of the laid off. But I need the help of one of the laid off.

Jeff manning. Perhaps you should ask Nike inc the ages and numbers of years of service for the majority of people laid off.

Um, obviously he is going to and is soliciting quotes so what are you even talking about?

@"Jeff Manning" - why dont you guys cover this layoff? Someone at Intel sneezes and there is a cover page story. We have massive cuts that are reshaping Nike and The Oregonian is silent. Shameful.

Having lived through both, being RIF'd was by far much less stressful.

Those left behind will have some relief but also some guilt - I am 1000% sure that HR is working on plans for yet another round of cuts in about three months so there will be some stress there as well...

It's sick.
