Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Targeted layoffs

The Dell layoff strategy is not to knock down whole teams. But do targeted layoffs. Especially target the high net worth experienced senior folks. The strategy has been to remove these long entrenched white elephants and promote younger high performance folks to higher positions. We saw two such promotions in EMC CoE recently. In these financially troubled times these promotions don't come cheap they come at the cost of some senior folks losing their jobs. Senior Directors and Directors should be specifically worried.

Yup, this is what has been happening, and it will probably continue to work like this. Just make sure to have your ducks in a row if you are in this category.

you cannot fire the whole management team. that is not possible. obvious reasons, all of them are incapable of learning. proof , the same team that f--- up the system gets to develop the new system. More proof, nothing will change after all this hoo haas, whatever sh-- that management tell, a specific ivory tower will either be Dell Dell or EMC EMC terrible one legacy style and nothing in between. It all comes down to who manages to kiss Mr.Dell and his directs' a-- hardest.

"making them learn skills beyond what they were initially hired for so they can then target them for firings as being unqualified for their jobs."

This is how a company grows to become successful. Successful companies don't want people that are unwilling, or unable to expand their skills "beyond what they were initially hired for". If you really feel this way, then you belong somewhere on an assembly line that never changes. Seriously.

It's not an age thing I see as many overrated 30 something managers and sales folks as older. Dell is over all a company that drives mediocre performance and uses layoffs or the threat of such to shed folks whoever it needs to show a better bottom line. Having work at both Dell and the evil borg that was EMC I can only say they They deserve each other both snarky management teams who consistently lie to the rank and file. Dell will have layoffs from now until Feb but they will I agree be targeted and done in small batches . More likely is their putting people in oppositions where they cannot achieve their goals or making them learn skills beyond what they were initially hired for so they can then target them for firings as being unqualified for their jobs. No package or benefits that way

DELL and EMC Canada, Sales Management and SEs have been long entrenched white elephants with 17 + years service and They Know nothing about how other tech companies work and compete. These EMC Sales managers only know how to play the political games and drive out the Doers with Deceptive Practices.

EMC and DELL Data Centre sales are loosing ground to other competitors, as they have filled their ranks with existing dead wood to the sales roles..
