Layoff announcements

Last year they were announced on 15th August. Any view on if it'll be another big one this year?

The list is ever ready and the same thumb rule used every time.

If your first line manager who was always content with your deliverables is suddenly doubting or complaining about your performance without particularly pinpointing the areas of improvement is the first sign of you (and in worse case scenario, the first line himself/herself) included in the LR nominees list.

Like so many others have already shared here, It is your second or the third line manager who decide the candidates to be LR'd based on several 'parameters' and usually nominated by their 'selected' reporting managers/program managers.

Bottomline: There is no right or a wrong answer, just choose what works for you between Identifying yourself among the influential managers/program managers troop to survive (without complaining about your personal values, work ethics, self respect blah blah..) or get a life outside (beyond your comfort zone).

Good Luck.

Always as a result of information relayed in the August earnings call. Probably notices go out immediately after that on the 18th.

Do you know the process? I am thinking of anyway and glad to replace the slot with someone LRed. How can I make it happen?

If you're not happy and want to leave, why would Cisco "give" you an expensive package and keep the person they've already deemed redundant? Odds are, if you don't get a package, you'll just leave in the next quarter or two anyway for free, thus killing two birds with one stone at half the cost.

Just save up your PTO, find a new job, give your notice such that you end at Cisco on Fri and start the new job on Mon and pocket the PTO money. You'll be much happier, not lose any income, and have some bonus money too boot. It's not always easy to find a job after being LR'd because of the competition from all the other LR'd people, so that package might be what you're living on instead of pocketing. It's ALWAYS better to leave on your terms and stick it to your employer than leaving on their terms and getting stuck instead.

Is AS immune to layoffs? Or AS also will take a hit this year?

Some even know which BUs will be hit. Just ask and we will let you know.

This Jane from HR. There will be no mass layoffs till the end of 2017. Starting Jan 2018, there will be lots of turbulence. Hang on tight.

49 people x 12 months = 588 will be quietly eliminated in San Jose

My gut tells me nothing will be announced. It'll just be small ones throughout the year.

That's boring. I want to see big bangs!

Did you read the other threads? Basically, we have an even distribution of when it will happen. 10 people say August 1.,. 11 people say August 2, ... and so the predictions go straight into 2018.

Some even know which BUs will be hit. Just ask and we will let you know.
