it seems like at&t is solely concentrated on wireless, tech, and content. So, what will be the future role of union represented wireline employees going into the future?

You won't have a company when you keep loosing customers and talented work force!!
Stupid 2020 courses are no value in keeping from being payed off or your job transferred to a lower paying work group!!!
They are getting rid of the bulk of union members by closing stores and creating the new spot of in home experts which is the same job, but no union. It's hilarious.
Anyone who is in a landline/wireline type group needs to prepare for the future NOW. T will pay for you to take courses in Cisco CCNA or any other related subjects. I am surprised the company has not sold the wireline business by now. The CWA will not be of any help, you are on your own if you need to work for 10 or 20 more years.
You won’t need a union if there’s no employees to represent.
