Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Cutting staff will cut profits as well

Walmart is a business. They don't keep employees just because you think they should. I agree companies should treat their employees with respect but if they see you as an negative for their profit they will restructure whether it makes the news or not. Face it , technology is the end of many people's jobs not just in our company. And I believe shareholders like to see the cost of running a business go down not up.

I disagree with this logic, @Ot01rjM-1dmz. Yes, laying off employees will show as lower operating costs on the next quarter's report, but it will cost the company in the long run. If the stores are understaffed, you can't sell as much as you did before. If there is nobody to put merchandise from the back room on the shelves, people can't see it, and can't buy it. If a customer is looking for something but can't find somebody to ask about it, they will leave and find another store... You get the gist. Laying off people is only a cheat to pad the numbers while the company keeps failing.

Most stores are cutting back staff. Not just Wal-Mart. Brick and Mortar stores are hurting. Malls are not successful anymore. Everyone is trying to figure out what's best for their business. Bringing in technology costs company less. They can then bring in more people to stock and service front end with less people to push paper in the back rooms.

For me, I totally get it. You can replace certain people with technology. However as one of said people most likely being replaced I am tired of having an anxiety pit daily. I'd just like to know. Do I look for another job or am I safe?
