I'm trying to figure out where Amazon is going to get the actual physical appliances to ship to the customer. Does Sears have a whole separate inventory for Amazon? In our store numerous appliances are out of stock, delayed, or discontinued. A number of our appliance salespeople have lost a lot of sales because they couldn't get the appliances.

Two different opinions. I dont think this is the end at all for commission sales people. I think it is going to be better for them than they can understand right now due to their past experience and the way they are used to things happening.

@nfg This is going to hurt sales associates more because instead of them getting the commission Amazon is taking the commission. Its kind of sad that they are the ones that are going to get screwed in the end with this deal. Course I don't see this working in the long run since people like to see this big items in person especially if it fits in the house how does it look how does it feel etc. This is a big win for Amazon a little win for Sears and a huge loss for Home Appliance workers.

@gax Alfie didn't work because the technology was no different than calling on the phone and leaving a voicemail. Seriously. And also you could only use it to shop at SHLD which no one actually does.

End of the brick and mortar stores. No need for them. All Sears needs to sell is mattresses and appliances. People may want to physically see the product but they will go online to purchase. Bye, bye commissioned sales people and any stores over 15000 square feet

@ mdm Let it go. It didn't work and now we move on. I am sure everyone in their lifetime has done something that didn't work out exactly as they thought. No need to be embarrassed. We have seen all sorts of things sold at Sears over the years....some good...some bad...some crazy.

Everyone does realize that Sears through it's delivery service already services other companies other than just Sears right? I can't get over what I read as I have had a positive experience with all new appliances delivered as well as a mattress over the last couple of years. Now don't get me wrong we did have to re schedule the mattress delivery, but honestly things happen. I have a harder time getting a painter to come out or someone to fix the toilet.

Kenmore products will be sold on a real website. In my experience Amazon unlike Sears stands behind the goods it sells. Sears deserves the open review process because it's few reviews on its own site are meaningless.

That delivery and service though? Sears better step it up.

Why Alexa enabled appliances when you can have an Alfie! What an embarrassing attempt to copy the Amazon Echo. Just without all the bells and whistles, and you know, basic functionality...

Innovel Solutions . (Sears) is going to warehouse ,stock , deliver, install not only the Sears products but all brands of appliances sold by Amazon. Good buy stores ,,, hello 3rd party logistics.

The person that said this is a good thing is out of their mind ... this is excatly what Eddie wants , he can still sell kenmore yet close every large box mall based store and go with the smaller footprint as he has already been doing , wake up man your job will soon be eliminated

Just a test to see if the Kenmore name is worth Amazon buying it.

We have had good luck with our Kenmore appliances also but we stay away from Kenmore Elite.

@qxv My parents LOVE Kenmore appliances. It's not all bad.

The problem you can't get over though is a huge number of those under-40 crowd heard from their parents how Sears screwed them over on a POS Kenmore appliance with even worse service.

Normally I think everything EL does is dumb by default. I think this is a good idea, though. One of the problems we have is that there are huge demographics of people to whom Sears is completely irrelevant (pretty much the entire under-40 crowd). As someone else already mentioned, this may bring some of those people into the stores to physically see the products.

Anyone who thinks selling your products and via your biggest competitor is delusional. See: the Borders reference. Kenmore shoppers will now be able to compare head to head with other brands with better track records, better pricing, and a better chance of being able to get service a year from now. For the goods that actually sell, SHLD will be giving a portion of the profits to their biggest competitor. And, SHLD loses complete control of the review process. Given the quality of SHLD products and services of late, that's bad, bad news for SHLD.

IMHO, this is nothing more than a publicity stunt to drive up the stock price in the short term.

Bet Citibank won't like this deal.

This should benefit the sales associates in the stores too. Not everyone buys their appliances online. There will be those members/customers who will go into Sears stores that have never gone before to physically look at the product. This is a plus not a negative.

sears locations, kmart, and warehouses will be used for delivery and pickup for amazon locations. access to the home services and innovel divisions of SHC will strengthen amazon and SHC. selling appliances to more people via amazon is good for SHC. thinking about the PT/FT associates in HA is thinking too small, you need to think about the size of SHC and the revenues needed to keep it going. the amazon partnership is just one more step in the transformation process.

LOL. Eddie can use that free Dot to order some decent stuff at good prices instead of that overpriced junk his company sells.

A former coworker was involved in getting HA to work with Amazon.com to sell appliance late 2015. When the idea was initially presented to Eddie Lampert, he shot it down as usual despite the estimated revenue that will come from the deal (I don't recall the estimate but it was a risk worth taking). Now Eddie is desperate to keep the business afloat so he finally caved in. In my opinion, this was a great plan to sell more appliances using Amazon.com. I can't believe this took a long time. Damage is done...

Plenty of cheap property available that doesn't need a dilapidated building torn down.

This is near-meaningless. Amazon's Alexa has an open API. Anyone can Alexa-enable their product. A 16 year old kid Alexa-enabled his radio controlled car. He has a lot brighter future than Sears. https://developer.amazon.com/blogs/alexa/post/1d5f6fdd-bd89-408f-9fa9-64f67e9604a1/this-teen-dev-taught-alexa-to-drive-a-model-car-co-pilot-a-video-game.

By the way, "terms of the deal" were not disclosed because they included a free pair of socks. https://developer.amazon.com/alexa-skills-kit/alexa-developer-skill-promotion

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! I wonder if Amazon has any interest in Sears properties for warehousing or drone bases? Perhaps Amazon should buy the entire Home Services division.
