Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Heard the discrimination lawsuit has teeth...

Rumor has it that older white people were the only group targeted in the last layoff this summer. White women over 40 were the largest group let go reassigned based on head count. In other words white women over 40 were not the largest group let go, but based on total count of this group (small number actually employed in these roles) in sales and support they were hit hardest. Over 85% of the white women over 40 employed in these roles were let go.

No Indians and no minorities were let go. Just a bunch of white men over 40, and ESPECIALLY white women over 40 got the axe. They had to be reassigned or take severance. Wondering if anyone has any inside information (HR) with this figure.

Those of you who talk to attorneys/ the government, please do not forget to tell them that MH said at the company meeting that he did Not want to hire old people, only young ones fresh out of college. If that is not clear bias that violates the law, I don't know what is!

I am also a white woman over 40 that got RIF'd. However, as I was in sales and didn't make quota (neither did any of the men on my team excluding one guy who had a big renewal come due this year) I don't have a leg to stand on. Never mind that my 20-year Oracle veteran boss changed my territory (to much worse accounts) and doubled my quota after the first 2 months. In speaking with other reps who covered those same accounts, it was clear that my quota was 3-4x what anyone else was expected to do in that territory.

Those are the subtle ways that managers can discriminate against women. Essentially, setting them up for failure by making goals so far out of reach that only factors outside of your control could change the outcome.

Unfortunately, this isn't a problem just at Oracle. It's prevalent throughout the Tech industry for woman outside of traditional women's roles (Marketing, Finance, Admins, etc.) I think part of the issue is that a majority of men don't look at their women counterparts and think less of them. Most men are respectful, friendly and inclusive. They still hold the door open for you and help put your heavy suitcase in the trunk when on travel. These men don't notice the subtle snub of women because they would never do it. They don't pay attention to the fact that your boss tries to discredit all of your thoughts only to prove you right later on. They are immune to the times your boss calls men by their names but lumps all women together as 'girls' like we're mindless, giggling teens.

I hate the whole women's lib thing. I want a guy to hold a door for me and show me respect. I have an Ivy League degree and over 20 years of experience in the industry. Most of my male colleagues treat me well. Except for the ones that don't, the ones who ask me to sleep with them because I'm single or tell me to my face that my opinion doesn't matter because I'm a girl. One of the funny things is that the guys who have treated me the worst are the ones who have since been promoted within Oracle, while most of the 'good guys' I knew have moved to other companies.

Suggest you all go to your respective state Attorney Generals and ask them to commence a multi- stage investigation of Oracle. State AGs do that all the time and this one would be a good one. Good luck!

But they have an over 40 year old woman as CEO! They don't discriminate as evidenced by that.

I couldn't see any patterns in the data without entering all the information into a spreadsheet so I can't assess the numbers. If you are working with a lawyer, it might be worth the trouble to analyze. I decided it wasn't worth the effort and took the severance.

I'm a woman over 40 and was laid off. They sent paperwork with the severance package listing title and ages of those selected and not selected. No names. There was no gender listed so I'm not sure how anyone could make this claim.

Heads UP: Oracle Managers plant information and rumors and track how they travel back to them through the organization. If you work at Oracle be very careful when speaking with your manager to validate rumors. They are seeding the company with rumors intentionally to find gossipers and fire them/target them for layoffs.

CAUTION!
