Store closing protocol

What is the closing protocol for a COR location? What happens to the employees? Are reps and ssrs offered positions in other locations?

Per union contract, store employees will be notified 30-60 days prior to the closure, this usually includes the store manager as well. Only ARSM and higher will know previous to this but each market maybe a little different.

All the non management employees will likely be asked which store they would like to be transfered to. First priority will be to fill open positions at understaffed locations and they will be looking at stores within a 50 mile radius of your current store.

Once all stores are at fully staffed then they will start over staffing locations by one, so no two employees will be able to transfer to the same location. Seniority gets first pick, so on and so forth, then they'll let natural staff attrition occur overtime to get staffing levels back in line. This will likely be done with the SSRs and ASMs as well, unless the closure overlaps with an already announced surplus/reorg.

The store manager would be the most likely to be at risk of severance and being let go, but I've seen markets before create a dual store manager type scenario and again, wait for attrition, for staffing levels to balance out.

This is all dependent on their being enough stores within 50 miles for everyone to go. Each markets different, but the 4 store closures I've gone thru were exicuted this way. Half of them found a spot for the RSM and the other 2 ended up letting the RSM go.

It's not impossible for them to severance out the entire store (I wouldn't think unlikely tho as waiting for natural turnover is usually cheaper at the RSC level than paying out severance for an entire store) in either case you can check the union handbook or hr one stop for managers on how severance would work and is paid out.

I wouldn't worry too much, being told your store is closing isn't as job impacting as the 15 minute conf call scheduled on Friday mornings titled "sales organization update".

Good luck.
