Verizon to be closing all retail stores by 2020 referring to project 2020. The only stores that will be remaining are smart stores and a few A level stores.

Two stores in my district are closing. Employees given 30 days notice and will be provided severance or option to apply for other positions. Both stores reopening as retailers!

StopScaringPeople - Lets see. What's better than walking into a Verizon store and getting jumped on by 4 reps standing at the door and trying to force to buy accessories that are overpriced, slamming tablets and HUM's down my throat and putting me on some crappy device payment plan for a $800 phone that I can get on Amazon for $300?

I know what's better: Paying a bunch of retards $60,000 plus a year to be glorified Walmart clerks while paying $5,000 to $20,000 a month retail rent while paying thousands more per location, per month in worthless merchandising gimmicks no one gives a $hit about.

Yup - Stores are the FUTURE! VZ STORES FOR THE WIN.

Sorry but I believe every word of this. Corporate retail stores are dying, and Indirect is the future.

Yes a hybrid store. Meaning indirect but training similar to corporate stores training. They have a plan to open over 200 of these cellular cell just in South alone. With a stretch goal of over 300 within the next year alone. Highly doubt any corporate stores will be opening any time soon. Verizon is trying to make themselved as disposable as they can. We have sold almost 90% of our network and we just lease and maintain those towers now. Tmobile is getting close and after they acquire sprint it will make a huge impact on Verizons failure. Shareholders and Lowell and all upper management do not know how to run a successful company anymore. Maybe 10 years ago. I have seen this company personally completely change for the worse year after year. Quota is unattainable

Opening 9 stores just in the Bay Area? What 9 cities? I'm calling bullshizz on that! Maybe 9 AR's!

VZ is opening 9 "Next Generation" stores in the Bay Area alone in the coming months.

Calling bull $hiz on this.

Stores are waste of money

I wouldn't be surprised if this was true. In my district we are doing a 30 day "trial run" where we are no longer transferring people's content or setting up/activating their phones in store. To me it seems like the idea is to get the customers accustomed to doing everything by themselves so when there are no stores to visit they will still purchase phones.

This is an outright lie project 2020 is a AT&T project. Verizon is still building corporate stores across the country.

@OcrUYbW-wnv, the premise of your reasoning, in which you say,

"Makes Sense... You can buy it online and get it shipped to your house.... Look how BIG Amazon is....no store fronts just order and get it in the mail... will save a lot of money by eliminating all those jobs and stores.",

appears to be undermined by reality:

What about the new store design? Next generation? Smart stores were a huge failure. Too expensive and require too much inventory and headcount to run.

Project 2020 is an AT&T cost reduction project by the way.
