Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

August or September?

I have seen people preparing presentations about their products and teams. The new leadership has asked for this. And we all have been asked to update our mycareer profiles. I guess the new leadership wants to assess things and wants to discard none performing products and people they deem un-important. In that case, layoffs should be around August or September.

Some of my friends - hardworking and intelligent devs have left in past couple of weeks. So, what am I doing here? Perhaps I am waiting here for the day and some severance after working here for 7 years, as my personal situation doesn't allow me to take the leap for few more months.

Well 12/1 with 30 days notice is far more tolerable then before the holidays.

Let's face it; getting laid off during the holidays is bad. Nobody is hiring so laying people off in November is even worse as you go without a job longer. Sure, you can use the unemployment argument but for some of us; it does not pay 100%.

Therefore; I believe notification 12/01 with last day around 01/01 is better of the two.

Obviously you haven't been around long. Sabre has long preferred to lay off on Dec 1 with a 30 day notice. It used to let them keep from having to pay VCP since they weren't on payroll. They changed their policy on that. Now, no matter when you are laid off, it's up to your manager to decide what to do with your VCP.

Well said! I used to research on Glassdoor but let's face it, that website is either pissed off employees or HR trying to mess with the ratings.

But something you can't learn about is culture.

All companies do layoffs; it s---s but its a part of business.

At some companies its easier to endure bc maybe the work is good, or the people are good, or some other factor about the culture which makes it tolerable.

I dont think you will get any sense of that by reading The Layoff. Most of the posters are simply scared about their own fate and on defense.

While I see some threads hit 2000+ views; I hardly believe those are unique and I wouldn't bet that "thousands" are reading these posts. Of the Sabre population of about 9000 (and shrinking); my assumption is that a small fraction actually visit this site.

the way they bring us in then for reasons I ignore dont help you integrate with the teams and then dump us like trash makes we feel resentment because after all you are caught by surprise no feedback by a standard speech being read to you and we have family, personal issues, but I have learned something..resentment is like drinking poison so to make another die...it is not good. research the next company, learn about it before joining a new one. we could have avoided going thru this. thousands of looks here...always same posts different words. organization is sick. people there are ill..afraid about the different so not a place to develop yourself ...we all know..you can feel from day one specially if you are not local. so look outside and go away from people that dont respect you. dont feel bad. trust me cause I have already heard the standard speech. feel sorry for friends going the same path.

I can confirm the presentations are accurate information. I am nervous about what might happen. We have chillens to feed.

Awesome, so they give notice in September and your final day should be around the holidays. That's pretty crappy.

Absolutely nobody will be hiring that time of year not to mention it puts a damper on the holidays as well.

Happy Holidays!

The assessment of what solutions would be deemed non-core/essential has been going on for months. Ultimately you'll see stop sells, no investment, and sell offs. Solutions and people.
