It's tanking because Barbie and fashion dolls are no longer our lead category. The margin from fashion dolls and the revenue from them, has kept Mattel afloat for years, and paid for all those lucrative employment contracts.
Barbie used to be $2Billion - it's now $950M and sinking. It doesn't take a genius to understand that fashion doll margins (twice as high as anything else Mattel makes) have been subsidizing all the other brands. When it declines, then the subsidy diminishes and the percentage drops. It ain't ever coming back - not because Hasbro has Disney PRincesses - but because kids don't care about Barbie because she's got no depth to her. She doesn't have any meaningful stories to tell and certainly isn't the slightest bit interesting as a character.
We KNOW they sign contracts with the parachutes stipulated. The question is WHY does Mattel write these contracts? Other high profile companies in the business don't have anything close to the gifts that Mattel gives out.
It's not like we are getting the cream of the crop to warrant these lucrative contracts. We're getting execs with no experience with hardlines at all. We should get those people at a deep discount.

What ever happened to working for your paycheck? Mattel Executives have been getting these huge paychecks and parachutes for 20+ years, without having to perform at all.
What Mattel CEO as earned a paycheck since John Ammerman retired? When was that, 1996? Starting with Jill these failures have all received huge parachutes for their underperformance. Shouldn't Exec compensation be based on company performance? If they screw the pooch shoulcn't they be shown the door without a parachute? Why are they getting millions to not work?
It is and has been tanking because there apparently are no laws that prevent top mgmt from raping a companies bank account, leaving, then jetting off to W Palm Beach to live in luxury with the rest of the filthy rich board members. What a perfect scam. Enron had nothing on these stories. Employees are nothing but disposable tools of the rich/powerful. Welcome to life. Forget those stupid town hall meetings. They laugh at you until their sides ache.
