Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

It's What We Do (RL Letter)

There's a lot of smart people in the company. And even some brilliant and wise ones.

The solution to our problem is obvious: cut layers, cut management, cut bureaucracy, and yes, cut people, because the necessary work is much less than we are currently staffed for. Cut the project favoritism, bias hypocrisy, and cronyism that results in so much wasted capital.

This was obvious three years ago before COST. This is obvious now. So why can't our "leadership" see this and do something? NOW.

Waiting, asking for more time and input, and over-analyzing is indecisive, weak, and cowardly. Make the obvious decisions quickly that you are being overly paid to make.

It's what we do best... making employee's wait and wonder if they have a job or not to support their family!

It's a case of FMS: Fat Man Syndrome. RL can't put either himself or the company on a diet to get lean and healthy and win a race. He is surrounded by sycophants telling him that he looks good, that the company met the poor metrics set and that the club and jets should be kept. Same sycophants are likely sewing 36" labels into his 48" waistbands to keep the emporer deluded and the kingdom in tact.

Has any supermajor or successful independent ever had such a fat CEO? Can't think of one. It shows such a lack of discipline. He can't choose one dessert, so he has them all. He can't choose one less SGL21+, so he has them all.

Why is it that those of us that might be impacted by staffing reductions are eager to make the difficult decisions and get on with business while the big boys can't grow a pair and make anything happen?!? Worst case for them is leaving on a golden parachute; get on with it already and quit asking for input from "leadership" who will only continue to sell their existence.
