Latest Rumor: Next Round Coming End of August

I realize rumors are flying left and right given the lack of communication from leadership, but I've heard from a very credible source that the next round is happening the last week of August.

It sounds like the original plan was to roll out functional layoffs on a weekly basis starting in mid-August so those Aug 15th and 17th comments weren't necessarily wrong. It's just that a decision was recently made to move the timing back and wrap everything together into one date. No idea why that happened or if this is really the end of it all. Either way, hopefully we hear something soon.

Hang in there everyone!

Lay offs worldwide starting next week. Cuts will be deep, they have even fanned out global security to assist as expecting folks to be very upset. Heard Canada got to go first today, haven't heard total numbers but almost entire departments cut from the reports I've heard about.

The culture has changed and it will not be in the companies favour in the long term. Morale is at an all time low, which is not good when things are tough in the marketplace already. Remember August 2017 in this companies history as this will change the face of Nike.

Good luck friends/family at WHQ. It all starts Aug 28.

I live in Portland and used to work for Nike, as well as some of my family and friends. I have never been laid off, but have witnessed how these go since the early 90's. Nike has a lot of positives, but their layoffs reveal a darker side of the company. They seem to hit a lot of long-term (older) employees with higher salaries. I know, surprising. They are replaced by young applicants who are willing to work long hours for a starter salary in order to live the dream.

After a particularly brutal layoff in the late 90's, when employees were tapped on the shoulder and immediately escorted out of the building like criminals, there was a lot of criticism and unease among the employees who remained. As a result, Nike took a kinder approach to the layoff process during the last recession, allowing people to take time to pack up and say goodbye to colleagues. Now, I have learned from friends that the current layoffs taking place are a return to kick the employee to the curb variety.

Hang in there and be tough. Don't let all the talk of "we are a family" and the cool swag obscure the fact that Nike's first loyalty is always to shareholders, not employees. Fortunately, the economy is good right now and there are plenty of other sportswear companies in the are Portland area should you get laid off.

Any ideas how many people out of the 1700 have already been let go?

More layoffs coming. Futures orders down. A geographic restructuring from 6 to 4. CEOs of chain retailers calling out Nike directly for lack of product innovation. Adidas and Vans on the feet of most 14-17 year olds. Senior leadership with limited visibility to what is going on below the several hundred VPs, where workers feverishly produce PowerPoint presentations with buzz words, but never is a strategy operationalized. Culture of honesty and teamwork replaced by cult of personality and internal PR campaigns to keep. VPs looking innovative. Good luck all. I left Nike of my own accord in 2014. I was sad to go but really Nike was already not Nike any or even then. There is life after Nike. Best of luck. Also, mark, Phil, Trevor, Eric, Michael and Andy, open your eyes and ears.

I have also heard from a very credible resource the week of 28th. Global footwear product and Innovation have re-organized. However, other functions have not adjusted to the new consumer direct offense. Apparel, Sales, merch, along with supporting functions HR, IT, supply chain, culture and operations.. etc... it's a different company from 5 years ago...

My understanding is the same: Phase 2 of the re-org is scheduled for the week of August 28. I hear the re-org for Europe is delayed, however. Phase 3 of the re-org will be HR likely in Q2.

I've been checking this website for about five months now - sometimes it's correct, sometimes rumors are off. OP - Your statement makes sense, but it may be off as well...
