Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

More layoffs incoming

My manager told us at our morning meeting that this round is likely not the last round of layoffs. This was said with district and regional staff in attendance. If you survived the initial layoffs, and you're management, be prepared for what could be coming down the road.

Yes, it is incumbent on the company to change in the face of the new market, AND it is a tragedy for long time employee's to lose their job's, especially when this market for the skill's we have honed in our year's of employement with BB&B has diminished.

BUT, If there was little to no opportunity to grow, because of the stagnate workplace, don't make a blanket statement blaming those manager's (me included) that they weren't trying, or committed, or dedicated or too comfortable. We in the workforce reacted to the same stimuli that the company did, trying to make ourselves more valuable, learn as many skill's as time would permit.

Rather recognize that it's just a human tragedy, the type that occurs every day all across the work environment's.

We who were cut, IF we can land on our feet, should be grateful for the severance pay, and set aside any lingering bitterness to the company.

It's not as though the company offered any viable alternative's, cut your hour's, pay cut to keep job, etc, etc......

The company would be remiss in not doing what was needed to position itself to survive and move forward in a distinctly changed retail environment. Yes it was sad to lose long-time people. But honestly many of those held "management" positions and they managed nothing. They had comfortable spots they had held for years with no attempt at growth or learning new skills again in a drastically different retail world than what it was 10, 15, 20+ years ago. We can feel for them as friends and people absolutely but to bash a company for doing what was needed to survive and not lay everyone off is truly unfair.

I worked for BBBY for more than 8 years and got out more than a year ago. New management team was hired to implement new initiatives more than 5 years ago. 5 years after, they have done nothing but screw the company by hiring more than 50 highly paid people that were not performing. Glad to see that executives have fired the person who was responsible for the hiring and the management team knows that their number is up and have been resigning. Sad to know that a lot of people lost their job this month. This might be a blessing for all of you who lost your jobs. Really good companies are hiring now. You got severance pay, uenemployment and will get ahead of finding a new job before the company sinks like the Titanic. BBBY was a really good company to work for. Hope they can recover quickly by getting rid of bad people before good, responsible and dedicated people jumps ship. Good luck everybody.

Worked for BBB for over 15 years. Got out a couple of years ago. Getting out was the best thing I ever did. Was a great place to work when I started ,but it's sad to see the company that it has become . The people that built the company up over the years are just tossed aside to help the bottom line. And i am sure there will be more to come. Those still employed should start looking to get out before it's too late.
