Thread regarding Sears layoffs

"Happy" Music Video... Really??

How delusional are they at corporate? They want us in the stores to record ourselves lip synching to Pharrell's "Happy". We don't have enough hours to do member rallies or enough people left to be able to hold staff meetings while maintaining floor coverage. Now they want us to get our teams together to record music videos so they have head-in-the-sand propaganda videos that fly in the face of what the boots on the ground are feeling. Stores closing left and right and layoffs every month yet we're supposed to show corporate how we can "bust a move". How about you invest in your stores and people and actually try turning this company around. What a joke...

And corporate if you are reading... They went to Old Navy. Same wing. They advertised their uniforms.

What is wrong with Sears. Oh yeah. They are singing the Happy song.

There wasn't anyone in the store back to school shopping. And the district I live in has to wear uniforms. And the racks were stocked with uniforms.

People just don't want to shop there now.

Seems like the SM would have made a sign saying school uniforms here.

He lost out on those sales. Those racks were packed with school uniforms the weekend before school.

The GM gave up. At Oxmore. I will say it.

Dead store.

@jyd Our store has really gone down hill as well. Their was once upon a time where we were in the top 200 stores hell even in the 150 top stores, but now who knows what number we are we are definitely not in the top 200 stores. We use to have busy Saturdays and Sundays, now they arent so busy anymore. Our store has just gotten it it rough and it has to do with lots of changes. Pissed off customers, not much staff in the floor, unmotivated workers, good workers leaving. The east door is closed (was a good way to deal and fix things with customers). This past friends and family weekend was horrendous our sales were so bad I kid you not down like 30 percent to last year and around 40 percent down to goal. Even with the back 2 school it didn't help at all.

Now corporate goes back at using an old trick however now majority of the long term workers are long gone, some are just plain fed up theirs a few here and their that still worship Sears. A video isnt going to motivate and pump up associates at the store.

I even noticed my useless manager be desperate. I can't stand his c---y attitude in the meetings acting like a huge douche bag acting like "I am doing everything on my end to attract customers to our store what are you doing". All he did was use money to run billboards (friends and family) and an ad on the radio. He wanted associates to advertise it themselves good luck with that... Some did since some are still tools, but a lot of us rolling our eyes. He even tried to capitalize on some kids using the PA saying how wonderful our back to school sale was and having kids do a little fundraiser acting like he is doing them more good than anything. I didn't see the manager donating to them, but sure mentions it on the PA like he is helping out a lot.

i wonder how many of those videos were filmed in empty stores. They probably had a lot of time on their hands to do so.

I stopped in to the store I quit earlier this year on Saturday night. Saturday's used to be so busy.

Dead. Not one customer in appliances and not one appliance sales associate. Only the lead. I guess he was the only one working.

And this is a tier one store.

Keep lip syncing the happy song. What a shame.

Yeah the contest is legit but I wonder how many times they actually draw for winners. It can't be very often.

@3whv

I remember when they would always tell me shop in you can win $1,000 dollars in shop your way I was like lol... One day I remember the manager saying it and funny is I had 1k in my pocket I actually wanted to tell him no need to I already have the money in my pocket. No one ever won that I heard of it was just hype to make your life delusional.

Anyone remember those stupid "what would you do with a billion points" videos we had to force customers to make in store and then upload. The biggest waste of time I've ever seen! I think it was 6-7 years ago

Are you surprised? This company is full of bumbling idiots who love to watch themselves on video. Now we have the privilege to show how we can be just as useless.

Believe it or not it’s not a joke. I also saw it on SHC Connect. I thought this was a joke at first but they are serious. I wish we were able to post pictures on here.

Seriously this has got to be a joke......I cant believe anyone from Hoffman would ask any store to do this in light of all that has happened over the last couple of years and even just by reading on this forum.

You should totally do it, in front of empty shelves, dilapidated areas of the stores, interspersing videos of shoplifting, in front of the schedules showing only 4 hours a week for most associates. Make it as sarcastic as possible.

This happened today in my meet I was like what the f.... is going on. I get their and their all dance I am like with a facial expression like no.... This is stupid do they think this will motivate workers? They want to create a video song with holidays good luck with getting people to participate....

@1ahg Saw the video kind of ridiculous how much do you want to bet they were forced not saying all maybe one or two of them are complete tools and volunteered, but I can assure you not all of them are still employed with Sears.

So its obvious as mentioned a marketing scheme to show the public that Sears is a wonderful company outside have the stock holders build trust, but the biggest test its employees try to brainwash them. Course a lot of us know that Sears is no future why not actually give us a raise try to really motivate us instead of tricking us....

The SHI video is really cute, But......did I see a beautiful office beautiful building with city views and a checkerboard in a game room. How about that pool table? How many of you have pool tables in your break room. I thought the cafeteria was bright and cheery and the musical wall paper was cute.

The break room at my Sears is a dump. There are mousetraps scattered all over the breakroom and store. The chairs are filthy and the room doesn't seem like it has ever been updated. Tiles in the floor are missing. Come to think of it the hub office, bathrooms and general appearance of the store looks pretty crappy. It is either too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter and ceiling tiles are missing or damaged and ceiling leaks after a heavy rainstorm. Usually the buckets we put out on the floor prevent any flooding, slips and falls.

Nothing much to be happy about. I bet in India it is a pretty decent job. Good for them.

If I am not mistaken SHI already has a video out on 'Happy', just look it up on youtube search for Sears Holdings India it should be the first video that comes up.

Really? Are they that desperate to prove that the Sears and Kmart workforce are genuinely happy? Who is the intended audience? Customers, so they are deluded into believing that our stores are clean, up-to-date, well stocked and with plenty of well-paid associates to help them? Shareholders, so they can be sold on a lie that the stores are alive and well? Corporate, so they can falsely reassure themselves that everything is A-OK in the stores?

I can picture the proverbial gun being held to distressed employees' heads, forcing them to smile and sing along, only instead of the gun it is the threat of losing a job. Nobody's happy. It hasn't been fun here for a very long time. It's all about metrics. Even customer service isn't a priority anymore and that's why our stores are void of customers.

I hope they do make us do the video, so BMI and ASCAP can turn around and sue them for violating copyright via unauthorized public performance.

Maybe you could do the Weird Al version, "Tacky", instead.

I personally hate that song. It's over played garbage with a simplistic melody and the same damn words over and over again. Most music today is total trash. Oh and before you ask, I am under 30.
