ECA replacing SCs and CSMs?

Looks like Oracle's strategy is to replace Cloud SCs and CSMs with ECAs. Or at least it seems there are suddenly a lot of folks with the ECA title in Aria (looked under Hamidou's org. as an example). What is the thinking here? Is this just a re-branding exercise? Wondering how this affect more business focused SCs/CSMs down the rode as opposed to IT or Tech focused.

HD and his Architects are a complete waste of money. I mean some of them are good competent people, BUT the group drive no revenue worth talking about. HD's empire is a huge cost center that should have been eliminated a long time ago, IF management knew what they are doing, BUT with MH and SC in charge cluelessness prevails

Old thinking. Old wine in new bottle. There is no innovation. A bunch of MH s---ers. Never innovated. There is no cloud certification for oracle. All proprietary sw and hw. Look at Aria and see how many vintage leaders are there running new tech. They haven't developed new leaders. The ones they hired from competition are leaving after a small stint.

It all is a reflection of HD trying to make his mark on the organization and trying to get ahead.

His first pass at this was a couple years ago when he branded the title OEA (Oracle Enterprise Architect). He wanted to create a certification process coupled with a methodology to produce the ultimate technical role that would improve sales. From the look of it, the OEA was supposed to serve as the "CTO" of all the technical SCs calling on a customer. The role was initially targeted at KAD accounts with the thought that a KAD and OEA would team up to run/coordinate the sales cycles.

Then came the financially engineered Cloud credits deals. HD signed up to be the one to find a way to get customers to utilize the credits they purchased. Apparently, he wanted to be seen as the one who helped Oracle gain traction with Cloud. So he created a pre-sales ECA role (replacing the OEA program) along with the post-sales CSM position.

Or at least it seems there are suddenly a lot of folks with the ECA title in Aria

That is exactly it. The layoffs significantly altered HD's organization with around a 15% reduction. Of that, the biggest impact was that the pillar SCs got nuked with a 30%+ cut. In the aftermath, the majority of the organization has been rebranded as an ECA.

In terms of how where things go from here, who knows for certain? Given that IaaS/PaaS Cloud is still struggling, HD really has no claim that this shift towards "architecture" roles has created some huge wins. As a result, the best guess is that future reductions will be determined by whatever performance measures HD's staff has along with where revenue is/isn't coming from.
