Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Preemptive exits

Anybody else noticed highly-talented employees walking out the door over the past few months? I personally know of several so far, with another global SME packing bags as we speak due to utterly ignorant, incomprehensible actions from up the food chain. Going to be a nightmare when things that nobody but said SME knows exist stop working. Current "superiors" don't have a clue how much of daily business revolves around said things...like they say...winter is coming.

Oh well...best players...um...ahem...well, they find a good team, yo

@frj what's the source of this news. Dang 20% increase in salary is very attractive. I think I will stick around to see it instead of resigning. I can easily buy another horse with that kind of money.

20% increase, or decrease!?

Coming to think I think that all along that's cleverly planned by management. This was they didn't have to pay EOI benefits. Knock down as many apples possible, then chop off more during layoffs. I heard minimum 20% salary adjustments after this season of harvest.

I am not sure how much the organization is aware how bad the moral and the general distrust of upper management are. People are leaving and it will only get worse if more jobs open up.

"Nowhere to go." True, it does seem that way. But people are indeed leaving and finding places to go. One high-perf petrotech I am aware of left the industry entirely for a different opportunity. Tells you how bad our org/culture is.

I have not seen any talent leave - nowhere to go.

Things are bad across the industry.

4 high performing technical leaving in last 2 weeks from the houston office. At this rate, only managers and the bottom performers will be left by the end of the year.

Seems to be happening at an accelerating rate. Not surprised though, as it gets more depressing and miserable with every round of layoffs or rumors of layoffs. The back-biting and posturing continues to worsen too with each round.

Its easier to get another job while your still employed. Take the severance package, but who knows if you will find a job afterwards.

Some truly exceptional people have been paid to leave. If we had smart management, the ELT would have incentivized these folks to stick around another couple years and help with the current decision making and lean times, but we don't have smart management, so this vast talent (trained at huge expense) was paid to leave.

Meanwhile we'll hire Bosyon Consulting for $30 Million.

Ignorance is bliss. Said clueless managers will never know the difference. The bad ones think their (inherited) systems and processes are what is differential, not specific SMEs.

Very true, a lot of world-class-experts have left the company. I can't speak for them, but the dysfunctional system, lack of clear direction, and the existence of so many useless layers of management drove them away... nothing stays the same and soon or later the dust will settle...

Yes, I have noticed this and personally know a few of the highly talented employees who recently left the company. This is disconcerting, especially given the fact that they'd rather leave right now versus sticking around for a short while longer and potentially getting a severance package. I agree, winter is coming...
