Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

Walmart getting rid of longtime employees

I'll be 35 this month and had 18 (almost 19) years with the company. I was let go like I meant nothing. Worked hard for all those years. Starting as a cashier and finally making my way to the Home Office after 8 years in the store. None of it meant a thing. Also, I am 100% certain that they had no intentions of rehiring me during my grace period. I have a feeling this is a way to rid of all (or a big portion of) long term associates. However, they are trying to do this in a way so they do not get a lawsuit against them. I hate to be bitter and harbor ill feelings but what they are doing is wrong. They want to fire all these long term associates and bring in college students they can pay less. The Walmart culture goes out the door little by little with each associate they let go. Eventually, all Walmart culture will be gone and it will no longer be the company we all once loved and worked our asses off for. I feel sorry for those poor soles that are still there.

Bumping from older thread (@NEurZks-nwpz), more people should read this.

When are Wal-mart and Sams employees going to finally get enough of this company's Bull **** and vote yes to unionize. When is it going to be enough. As far as Walmart's culture that's a joke in itself. Yes doing away with positions that are held by long term associates seems to be what they do each year and when we are all gone and these millennials are running the show they will be happy. Work ethic has changed so much over the years and it gets worse every year. I see these young employees who care nothing about the company and definitely don't care about there co-workers. Most of these group of workers will miss more work in 6 months than I have in 25 years.

Wal Mart is a HOT MESS!! As a vendor I laugh, when we go in, they put anything, anywhere, just take the shelf tag off. When they took over Keebler shelves were pathetic. Now they are poised to take over Nabisco and also throwing out a lot of third party vendors that rep some pretty large companies. We will all shop at Amazon, not because we want to, but because that will soon be the only place we can actually find what we are looking for!!! Retail is changing and WM is so far from ready!!! They will get all they deserve!

We are actually following Kmart's script fairly closely if you read up on it. It's chilling.

I totally agree about workers being let go. The problem is the younger generation does not wanna work, therefore you have a high turnover. Call ins are ridiculous the lines are long, no help on the sales floor. Members stop shopping before you know it we close the doors. So laying off restructuring getting rid of long term /old partners. What have they gained from this. It's a bunch of upper management that don't know what the hell they are doing. They better wake up before it's to late and we can't recover. They may as well change our name to KMART!

I tend to agree with this assessment from 2tvo. That is pretty much what it seems like in my area.

But you can forget about a class action. Don't joy think the lawyers are reviewing these layoffs before the pink slips go out? Come on now folks...

Well here is how it works;

If u are over 40 you are gone

If u are a skilled unattractive woman you are gone

If u are an attractive woman but not skilled and under 40 you are fine

If u are a white male over 45 u are gone

If u are black male or female any age u are gone

The only safe people are the young millennials, LGBT people and young workers under 30 that are not married. Look at the make up of JET.com and that tells you what Walmart wants basicaly what ML wants. In the end Walmart will loose out to Amazon and become another Sears/Kmart ML will move on with a golden parachute to do a TED talk about what it was like to loose to Amazon. Will write a book about it appear on NPRs fresh air and recode to talk about the next company ML will plunder

Is it time? Perhaps! It's occurred and ongoing.

This family also is feelin the pain of Walmart layoff. We moved to this small town 9 years ago due to layoffs thinking Walmart would be a safe company. You are correct, they are getting rid of older workers and no one is questioning it.
