My co worker told me today that she saw some papers in one of the managers desk saying something about store closing. Also overheard her on the phone about it. Could this be for real or is this just like a threat (get the sales up or your store will have to close). I have not seen any changes in merchandise receiving 2 trucks a week our sales are way down though compared to before. I am curious how can you know when your store is about to close (what are the signs).

@3qxa Its sure sad that the cuts come to the bare bottom. Like how much can a full time position really save you? My lead I think got the boot (I havent gotten the confirmation), but saw her briefly when I was going in and said you will probably hear it out in the store she didn't want to tell me but she said it was bad news for her. She seem bummed, but if she really got fired what does the damn store save? She was making minimum wage the only thing that was lost is the full time position and course the holiday pay benefits (don't know what other benefits she really had).
Instead we have still 1 store manager and 3 managers (our store manager being very useless) yet the store manager is taking the biggest cut of the $$$. Its going to hurt the store more because my lead was actually very active she would be a tool that I won't deny, but she would help a lot now I don't know whats going to happen if she is gone or will take a demotion. If anything they should of gotten rid of a manager that would of saved them I think we are over booked with them yet we are running out of leads and they are the ones that are actually out in the floor.
Sure seems like all the cuts come from the bottom when there are plenty of management (higher up the ladder) that could and shd be eliminated. The way things are going soon those stuffy higher up management people will have to help out in the stores as there won't be any regular hard working employees left!!
We are loosing one of our leads who has been at our store for 20 years! Shoe DEPT lead position gone! So now our store will be down to one full time lead. Very sad

I don't know maybe it was a rumor maybe a threat I am curious the stores that have closed what are the signs of it. I know we have tons of merchandise stocked up (that we can't sell), but I think we might lose a manager since the whole thread about the "IBO" maybe they are going to cut cost before closing for good. Way before they announced our store closing, spray painted makings and stakes appeared on our parking lot and sidewalks. After our store closed the space was gutted and subdivided. The markings and stakes indicated where the gas and water lines were to be laid to service the new stores.
It is really business as usual with trucks til the end BUT the stores that closed inJan/Feb had a really light shipping of items for Holiday compared to surrounding stores and then they just started getting spring stuff like business as usual. They will hire folks right to the day of the announcement. Have you had visitors? The one Sears that sold attached to the mall had people coming in and taking measurements in the months leading up to the closing.
DM's know a few days before the public announcment of a store closing and SM know a day before. The DM will be in to tell the whole store the bad (good) news

I havent seen anything extra on CLX, but maybe its just a threat sign? I guess time will tell just very curious hearing that from the co worker. The only thing for sure is our sales have been horrible for a whole year as of now and they arent getting any better thats why I do believe we might close. I expected though to last until Christmas if anything.
However as another thread was opened about IBO maybe a lot of firing will now happen if it doesnt close.
The District Manager will come to your store and tell everyone that the Store is closing. We found out from our District Manager on Dec 27th, and the liquidation start on Jan 6th. It will take 12 weeks or less to close a store down. Nobody knows nothing until the District Manager informs your store manager, the day before they come to your store.
