Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Surplus / Layoffs 2018

I wanted to be the first here and start a 2018 AT&T Surplus / Layoff thread here. I know it’s early and that we’ll be speculating quite a bit but wanted to see what folks think how things will play out in 2018. To be more specific, here are some ideas for discussion:

  • Surplus Locations: What locations will be hit the most with layoffs, geographies / sites

  • Surplus Size: How many will be laid off by AT&T

  • Groups Affected

  • Positions Affected

What are your thoughts?

1st level management was offered a buy out package in the Southeast. There will be no cap for takers. Meaning 100% can take the buyout. Looks like we are trying to save money for the new Time Warner purchase.

Copy that, Raleigh.

I was hired as a temp OPT back in July 2015, just before the contract signing. The last of my good men were let go after being loaned out to different STATES for the maximum amount of time allowable for the position, 13 weeks. God bless these linemen.

Layed off beginning 2018, retired instead. Some of the layed off techs were higher in seniority due to a performance evaluation they now do so longevity is no longer protection. Used to get DTv at a employee discounted cost but AT&T raised it over 400 percent so ordered Dish at less than half that price. Now I hear the guys are striking in 5 states. The Purge is on.

Not only are they firing and laying off Managers... But AT&T has found a way to get rid of us that apart of the CWA umbrella with false accusations if violating (COBC) violations Code of Business Conduct. Such as Data Monitoring. Those would are favorites to an Area Manager are graced with a final written warning others are terminated. Mind you they did me soooo dirty... that I lost out on the remaining amount of my vacation only used 2 days of vacation from January to April.. had almost two weeks... Terminated me on the the 1st of May backed dated the health insurance cancelled on April 30th.. because they claimed that was the date I was terminated.. so I did not have insurance to even refill my medications for Lupus or for my sons asthma. To throw insult to injury they cancelled my commission that I earned refused to pay it out!!!! And also made sure I could not even collect unemployment!!! and for some reason I seem to be blacked balled.. when applying to other companies.. After 4 years in Retention.. I am worth nothing!!! Stuck with the service because my phones owe too much... Waiting the 6 week period for them to take my account off EMO so I can call them and tel them everybody died on the account just to get out of the phone payments as per policy.. Retention has to cancel if you tell them the person died and you are forgiven for the phone payment on the device.. SO if you know anybody tell them that!! Tell them to run.. cause the prices are not going down but up..

WOW! Literally Ditto my experience and feelings to a "T" (as the previous comment). Hope this treacherous, back stabbing company goes down in flames! ... and then I just learned my former AVP boss, just bought a $650K townhome - I can only imagine that he got a fat bonus for canning all the good, experienced, loyal workers...

AT&T has left me a very bitter former employee. I will always remember how my life, my money, my health, my career etc did not matter to my Area Manager, Director, so on and so forth. I regret giving this company 20 years of my life and dedication. I'm grateful not to have AT&T service. I will nrver give them a dime of my money.

Don't forget - although Randall Stephenson makes more than thousand times what you're making, but he wants to lay you off to increase his income and artificially drive up (his) stock prices (until there's no one left in AT&T to actually do the work and customer satisfaction reaches all time lows) - always remember: YOU MATTER!

I was surplus from my position as an Account Manager on the CC-LA , my last day was Dec 29,2017 , I was the only AM supporting a specific region , now there is NO AM managing over 200 Global customers in PR , there was no action taking in consideration of how will all the customers be manage . there is NO AM supporting these accounts do to AT&T bureaucratic process.

What action can be taken if the surplus is affecting customers directly , and AT&T business? .

I am the only Network Manager running four teams. Im supposed to have one. I have been a consistent leader, received two achievement awards in the last 60 days, and have had three EXCEEDS years out of the last four. I was notified of surplus today. How does this make any sense? ATT doesnt care for its people or its customers. I see it live daily.

I was affected by the October surplus and let go 12/15. 21+ years. I know my old team is definitely spooked. We handled IT T1 Support desks tickets. My colleagues were all Senior Level It or Production Application Support managers. We are seeing more and more of our issue management being handled by contractors. In the end we were handling our offshore IT replacements. My issue was not being in an IT hub location or major COE city was an easy excuse to use, as was the financial pressures associated with the potential TW merger. Your work, your mid or end of year evaluation results, nor your CE pivot training progression mattered NOT in this case. Then I hear the tax cut propaganda being used by Randall and the Senior Execs. it makes me sick. So sad.

I surely wouldn't take the option to relocate half way across the country so I can get effed over by the same company that effed over me and my coworkers in my own home town.

I sincerely hope that a certain witch that works at Cape Girardeau, MO call center gets the axe. She thinks so very highly of herself, she is a snob that needs to be knocked off her pedestal that she appointed to herself. Needs to go back to OK.

So I was part of the 10/16 surplus and my last day was 12/15. I and others in WA still have not received our last pay checks. I sure hope Randall and others have a great Christmas.

My heart goes out to all AT&T family affected by this layoff.

As a Cad Technician in the engineering dept. I am feeling pretty darn spooked right now. Luckily I feel our dept. is running very lean and we are always the first to take on new direction of the company. All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. :/

Here in the Midwest, Michigan to be exact, we are hearing of 100 uverse technicians being surpluses. No big surprise, training dtv contractors to do our work. Sh--ty work at that. Although I don't agree, I do understand why the company would prefer scabs doin doing our work. No benefits!! Complete alot of work on a daily basis. I have yet to see a contract employee show up on a job and have him do the job remotely close to correct. But at the end of the day it's a #. And we know randy likes $'s. Keep on fighting and do the right thing on a daily basis. Don't chase the bogus bribes the company puts in front of you. You are you are how you are perceived by your peers. 🍻 To the people doing what's right by the customer and the lord.

Central Valley CA, just got hit on this day with 39 total technicians coming from the city of Fresno CA alone today. Roughly total of 90 plus technicians across California.

There is a letter out of Georgia, giving potential “surplus” dates for 2018. The following are 12/15/17 03/15/2018 06/15/2018 and 09/14/2018 have all been declared by ATT each of these dates fall under quarterly layoffs.

Lastly where is CWA now? Knocking knock l

It’s sad it’s life it’s reality. Hope this motivates some of you to continue self enrichment and self motivation to learn and educate yourself to other traits .

The Northeast Regional President said 2 years ago on a webcast- "who goes to a bank anymore? All banking is now done online, that's what we want for Att". She said that to all of the northeast. You don't have to read between the lines.

They are targeting retail call centers. According to union bargaining, the only issue the company refuses to come to the table on is the store and call center closings. I was told by someone i know in corporate they will not promise to keep ANY stores open. This will continue until corp stores dont exist by 2020. They dont need corp stores. They are churning out fraudulant biz out of AR. The stock holders dont know the kind of scams AR is running to get cru lines and adds. Anythig to show growth. We have started to see customers coming in to pay bills holding hotspots. So i finally asked someone whyy. He said it was his "data monitor" he got from AR. It lets him monitor his data use LOL. Ive heard the "data monitor" scam is happening all over AR. Also promising to waive customer deposits if they use their social to open cru lines as sole proprietor. Att wants an AR army to run a ponzi scheme out of.
